turk182 Posted July 1, 2003 ahoy there, my friend recently had a very vivid dream and has asked if I can somehow explain it for him he has a 2/3 mixture of subs and ethanol (methylated spirits 96%, not sure what the other 4 is) he's left them for 12-16 hours, given the occasional shake there is a light green coloured layer on top, followed by some brown murky (still liquidly) stuff, and then there's all the crud matter. he did the best he could taking out the top green layer with a syringe, and evaporating it, and the same with the brown murky layer... with a resulting brown flaking material from both. what does one do now? thanks kindly for any help turk182 [ 01. squiresk Posted July 2, 2003 Your other 4% is probably methanol, (Nasty toxic stuff) and maybe dyes/colourings, maybe some water as well Does it leave any residue on clean glass or foil after being evaporated? Guest electro Posted July 2, 2003 it depends what your friend is trying to do. that there is already a crude extraction (so long as those subs were well n mushed up first so the ethanol could get into contact with all of them. he could divide the powder up ratio wise into "doses" (based on available fresh material - ie 10 mushrooms turned into 1 gram of powder, want one mushroom per dose so divide the 1 gram into 10 100 mg doses. Then throw it away because that activity is illegal and would not be carried out by anyone wishing to keep their freedom. (note the methanol wil evaporate but the other nasty shit in metho wont - be warned) To obtain crystals, i would assume (if it is anything like dmt [ seeing as it is a dmt relative, though that may not be the case - wait for someone to verify]) an a/b extraction would be more of the way to go... - blend subs in Distilled water (or add powder from ethanol extraction to distilled water) add a tiny bit of hcl to make sure alkaloids are in their water soluble salt form filter saving water in one jar and mush in another add more water with a little more acid to the mush combine the water extracts & discard the mush. add a base (like NAOH (sodium hydroxide aka lye or caustic soda) or KOH (potassium hydroxide aka potash) ) to turn the alkaloids into their freebase forms add a non polar solvent (dmt freebase likes napatha - but (is it oh-dmt?) may not shake about alot so that the freebase can move into the napatha then let it sit for a while - more time is MORE stick the whole lot in a zip loc bag, cut off the botom corner of the bag and seperate the two layers by draining the water into one jar, pinching the bag to stop the flow, then draining the napatha into another jar ... add more napatha to the water and repeat ( to get what you missed the first time) now combine the napatha extracts now one can evaporate to leave freebase (is this crystalline like dmt or not ?) OR HCL gas it (see psychokitty's hcl generator document on rhodium) (warning hcl gas is DEADLY) or repeat the water seperation above (that final napatha one), but this time add some hcl to the water first, then keep the water extracts & evaporate. if it's still gunky you could try "washing" it... if it's salt form (hcl etc) then a napatha wash might work (dump it into a jar, dump some napatha onto it .. shake /stir .. what doesnt dissolve is what you want .. filter and keep the stuff in the filter to dry. if it's freebase wash with water ... you could try an acetone wash, but i have no idea of solubility with that for this so i couldnt tell you wqhich bit to keep... anyhoo tell your friend not to do anything ( except to throw it away) as it is illegal and not endorsed, [ 01. Torsten Posted July 3, 2003 a very thorough little chem-nut wrote this last year on another forum: Almost any liquid will extract something from the shrooms themselves or the mycelium. Even water will work, producinga brown syrup that can be dried into a sticky tar. Only the acetone was a bust in extracting the magic - but it does extract some other crud that might make it a good pre-wash for more seriousextractions. Recapping the results of the tests using other spirits,99% isopropyl, 151 proof ethyl alcohol, and 99.9% methanol - methanolwas the hands down winner for getting the crystals. Also looking at the theory (ie solubility data) methanol is much better. Wet methanol will also extract the psilocybin. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
