Thelema Posted April 8, 2004 Do the seeds have to be juicy when you sow them, or can you dry them first?
Torsten Posted April 9, 2004 fresh/juicy is best. The more the coat dries the more variable the germination.
Plantsoma Posted April 9, 2004 The seeds look very similar to Psychotria sp. seeds, and both being rainforest plants id say fresh & moist in the berry is best, once the seeds are dried and stored, viability would decrease gradually id say.
Torsten Posted April 9, 2004 it seems to be important for rainforest seeds to go through certain changes before the seed is ready for germination. If there is a berry or fruit flesh then the rotting of this helps to activate the seed. Similarly, if the flesh is removed then a quick drying of the seedcoat will help. This may be as short as a few hours for some species.
