Some unclear Pachanoids

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As I try to keep an overview about the different clones i am growing i want to ID some unclear cacti of my collection. Your comments are very appreciated.

The First one looks like a Spiny Pachanoid/Peruvianus Hybrid but i´m not sure.

The Second one might not be a Pachanoi. I´m not sure. It has very few small spines, mostly 2 or 3 per Areole. Nice cutting!

I´ll include more pics later.

BestRegs EG

Thanks Archaea,

Pic 1 + 2 are the same plant. I was uncertain because old spine growth is white on this one.

The Pachanoi on the last Pic has almost round areoles. Ist this a common feature on pachanoi?

Very interesting, perhaps you have an intermediate?

Looking at my own plants I would say that pachanoid plants can have quite round areoles. As for normal or common I just don't know.

If the second photo is representative of the spination on the first plant, I'd have to go with bridgesoid too.

From my limited experience, such paired spines are a bridgesii feature. Not all bridgesii clones show them, but I've yet to see another species produce that unique paired spine look.

If anyone has noticed this look on other species, by all means share the info.

See Trouts notes on SP

the 2 pronged feature is on one of my clones so its a special interest for me

out they jumped at me from the page

this habit popping up in several specimens labelled peruvianus or pallarensis

no bridgesii i have seen does this

anyones who has can you post pics plz :)

Sorry I don't have a digicam to take my own pictures, but there are a few pics in Trouts San Pedro 3rd Ed. Pt B that show the paired spines on bridgesoids. A quick glance reveals some on pgs 40, 47, and 50.

Tis true that the tip of that one, and even the full length photo don't look like pure bridgesii. Hopefully no one is expecting a definitive label. Either way, that's a promising looking clone you have there, EG.
