M S Smith Posted October 23, 2003 Jeez, and here I thought you would be discussing Oreocereus, Pilocereus, Espostoa, or Cephalocereus, the true old man cactus'. But just to aid you a bit in your growing, from what I understand fungus gnat larvae LOVE to eat these plants from the root up into the plant, so at the first sign of them flying about I would probably give the soil a once over with pyrethrins. planthelper Posted October 23, 2003 i have been told to use mesurall against gnats. phyretrum is only effective against some of the life cycle of the sciarid flys.

M S Smith Posted October 24, 2003 Hey planthelper, yeah, use the pyrethrins to kill the larvae that are chewing up the roots. Works good for me.
