Id please and a question about patchy skin - first post

rocketgirl

Question

My cactus had a patchy skin when I got it 6 or more months ago. Is it going to outgrow this or should I get rid of it? It seems healthy otherwise and has started to put on new growth. It is quite a pale blue/green. I think it is a Pach but I would value your opinion. Thanks :)

Hi Bagels, it looks completely normal to me. There´s a glaucous epidermis color, which is normal for some strains. There also are some minor discolorations, but these could be from the plant having a stressful time, not enough nutrients, sun burn and a whole lot more reasons. It´s one of these internet myths that similar discolorations automatically mean virus infection, but that´s just misinformation. Unless the discolorated area grows substantially, affects the whole body and starts making circular patches, it´s most likely not a virus. It´s a Trichocereus pachanoi.

Hi Evil Genius, yes I was told, not by anyone here, that it was probably a virus. I can take it out of quarantine now. Agreed, it's had a stressful time. They also said it was most likely PC. I'm not really sure what they meant, in relation to NZ too. Thanks for clearing that up for me I really appreciate your help.
