watertrade Posted October 6, 2015 Hi all, I bought my kids a fishtank with some goldfish because I feed my fish like I do myself, the fish outgrew the small tank and now have a nice big tank. ( their not getting another one!) they have been loving the big tank. As is my nature I would like to fill it with plants. does anyone have any cold water aquarium plants they want to trade? I have lights but no Co2. cheeers
coolname Posted October 6, 2015 I have some spare java fern and java moss I can send you if you want it. I am not sure how they go in cold water, but they are really tough and hard to kill in a tropical tank

spooge Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) because they are cold water goldfish I'd go down the local creek and acquire some native waterplants roots, and try and propergate them in buckets of clean water till they grow and are free of contam, you may find the fish will eat the plants as well so you may want a nice supply you can redo the tank with every few months when you clean it out. I found goldfish love the green algae that grows in creeks, def keep some of this in a clean bucket of water to replenish the supply once they eat it all. most importantly do PH in the buckets as well so if and when you transplant these plants they are use to the water conditions. Use grow lights and they will grow real quick best to collect rain water to refill your tank as the chlorine and shit the fishes don't like, filling buckets with tap water and letting them sit for a few days is a good way to evap the crud out of the water. i only ever use to empty my tanks 2/3 when i cleaned them out so then the precious bacteria etc are still present in the environment an under rock filters are best and cheap. make sure any wooden logs you add etc are contain free as well. post a pic of your tank man, would love to see it cold water native australian fish tank fish- for the fish lovers - there are amazing cold water native fish like pygmy perch http://www.google.com.au/search?q=pygmy+perch+aus&client=safari&rls=en&prmd=ivns&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAUQ_AVqFQoTCN3Dhe6YrcgCFUPipgodDT0BCwand Galaxia Oxydentalis - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=galaxias+occidentalis&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&sa=X&as_q=&nfpr=&spell=1&ved=0CBIQvwVqFQoTCJei3ZCZrcgCFUiQlAod7YEKiw west aust minnow - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=west+aust+minnow+fish&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&nfpr=&spell=1&oq=west+aust+minnow+fish&gs_l=img.3...8766.15273.0.15820.21.15.0.2.0.0.298.677.0j1j2.3.0....0...1ac.1.34.img..19.2.379.20nZ8PyZYoI Gobi - both cold and warm water - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=gobi+fish+aus&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&nfpr=&spell=1&oq=gobi+fish+aus&gs_l=img.12...6649.6649.0.8220.1.1.0.0.0.0.535.535.5-1.1.0....0...1ac.1.34.img..1.0.0.aWgAbXbYXVE theres a species of Gobi that only lives in one well in the central of australia and no where else on the planet warm water australian native fish rainbow fish - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=rainbw+fish+aus&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&nfpr=&spell=1&oq=rainbw+fish+aus&gs_l=img.3...100139.106476.0.106726.17.15.0.1.0.0.594.1995.1j2j4-1j2.6.0....0...1ac.1.34.img..12.5.1401.nfcXeINqrRg Archer fish - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=archer+fish&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&nfpr=&spell=1&oq=archer+fish&gs_l=img.3..0l10.115394.119263.0.119896.11.8.0.1.1.0.598.1167.1j5-2.3.0....0...1ac.1.34.img..7.4.1171.DMZBhYK_nnw Monos - http://www.google.com.au/search?q=monos+fish&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&hl=en&nfpr=&spell=1&oq=monos+fish&gs_l=img.3..0j0i10l9.4700.9283.0.9825.10.10.0.0.0.0.73.81.2.2.0....0...1ac.1.34.img..8.2.81.InWw6VMugpk at one stage i had 17 fish tanks from 2ft to 12ft, it can be a very expensive yet very rewarding hobby. and a lot of work. pet shops will pay good money for certain types of fish once they have outgrown their tanks. soz bout highjacking your thread Watertrade, fishes set me off cuz i love them, esp the native aus ones. hope your kids are loving their new fish tank man. watertrade Posted October 6, 2015 Thanks for the post olive. I do like the idea of getting a more advanced system. It would probably suit my anal personality. The first thing that comes to mind though is the work required to keep them healthy. I don't min the work. But time is an issue.

The first thing that comes to mind though is the work required to keep them healthy. I don't min the work. But time is an issue. It doesn't take much time to maintain one or two aquariums. I have four set up at the moment and it only takes less than an hour or so per week to keep them healthy and looking good. But be careful because I find it as addictive as collecting cactus. You should stop before it is too late haha
