Is this sunburn?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I got this rooted cutting last week and it's turning white!

I potted it up and put it with my other cacti which are pretty much getting full sun all day now, and it has been quite warm.

It's kind of sunken in where it's losing colour but it's not soft.

Also, it's only on this side, which was getting the sun, and the tip, the other side seems fine.

Please tell me it's sun burn and he'll be ok!

looks sick to me.....get it out of the full sun & into 50% shade.

Met another veteran one day at the hospital, he was telling me he was born in Norway & his parents moved to Hawaii when he was a toddler. Back then people didnt really understand the harmful rays of the sun in relation to a baby's skin. He got seriously sunburned, and today in his 60's has serious skin cancer...

why sunburned at the base? cuz the whitish sand/rock top dressing is reflecting the suns rays back onto the plant....double cooked

Thanks guys,

It's not squishy at all and I've moved him now where he only gets a few hours sun in the morning.

That's makes a lot of sense about the base being burnt zelly, I was pretty sure it was sun burn but it was a bit weird as I'd put a lot of other new cacti in the same spot recently and they'd all been fine. So I was a bit worried about him.

I guess he was just a bit less acclimatised than the others.

Cheers for easing my fears!
