hypnotoad Posted February 17, 2015 It looks and smell a lot like camphor, but the scent isn't as strong. It's from Brookefield in Brisbane.
0 Statakak Posted March 9, 2015 I just came across this plant today and I remembered seeing this post that you put up a few weeks back. I'm pretty certain that the one I saw is the same one - slightly wavy leaf margins, alternate leaves, same vein structure with that cinnamon look, and that camphor smell. Chewing the petiole gives a slimy sensation instead of that dry/astringent sensation of cinnamon (not that that has much to do with ID, or is an advisable practice at all) I was told it was Cryptocarya triplinervis, Brown Laurel. Lauracae family - same as cinnamon. Distrobution from NSW to Nth QLD.
