terraferma Posted January 22, 2015 To those of you who are growing Trichocereus seedlings indoors under lights, what temperature has given you the best results for fast growth?
☽Ţ ҉ĥϋηϠ₡яღ☯ॐ€ðяئॐ♡Pϟiℓℴϟℴ Posted January 22, 2015 hmm theres only two settings on on a standard electric propogator that i use for cacti seeds on , and off ... seems to matter little when they're hermetically sealed .... so long as the propogator/mini greenhouse is working. If "off" is selected, that it's not for so long that they get cold ... i guess these regular propogators raise ambient temps by roughly 10degreesC within a certain temperature window ... and this works amazing in cold parts of the world / temperate regions - in winter... scorching summers negate having them switched on at all , mild springs also negate that too, winter is nicest sowing time here in albion just for the ease of control ...and safe guard from over cooking I would guess the ideal temperatures would be fluctuating between 16C and 27C regularly..., peaking occasionally at 30C and troughing at 15C (since this is how I germinate mine). I dont bother with a thermometer now .. i just turn the propogators off every few days for random durations never exceeding 3 hours at night but sometimes all day if its a sunny day (in the sun room) and maybe then leave them on for 3-7 days before doing it over again here's how far I got after 3 winter/spring's practice, lights only added a month or so ago

zelly Posted January 23, 2015 keep the soil temps 27-30C and the room temps wont matter.
LaughingOwl Posted January 23, 2015 I'm in the states so you'll have to excuse the ℉ temps. I germ and grow my seedlings in a chamber that sits around 82-85℉ with lights on and drops to 77℉ with lights off. Growth rates are decent depends on the breed though. Germ rates have been stellar the last 5 batches sown have been 100% germ rate.
