Nailthesnail Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) Regarding the silene capensis. It is not near a year old but is growing vigorously and is starting to have split growth points I know it is healthy but am wondering what it is up too and when I will be able to harvest the rootThe cuzcoensis is showing signs of a green mold sort of thing on the top of the cut. And the acacia maidenii is sort of drooping on the new growth and no longer has the leaves, But I believe that is a sign that it is becoming more mature. paradox Posted August 27, 2014 (edited) the Acacias look heaps healthy & the drooping is pretty normal when they're well watered & the suns shining on them.. other things look fine to me too Edited August 27, 2014 by paradox

Dreamwalker. Posted August 27, 2014 looks good ..hopefully with things heating up your cacti will begin to pup soon.......interested to hear how the silene works out..nice looking plant..
Nailthesnail Posted August 27, 2014 I had a look at some photos of silene it seems like it will develop a similar root base as peyote. Dreamwalker I may have seeds this year if they flower if you want some, I hope they do hahaha
in_spirit Posted August 28, 2014 I would cut the cacti top to a taper ( like you would if doing a graft), just so water doesn't pool on top and cause rot.
Nailthesnail Posted August 28, 2014 I will have to cut it at some point anyway, aye no matter what that will cause rot if I leave it like that right?Shit I never even thought about it. I have had this for like 4months and it hasnt done a thing, how much do you reckon I cut off If I was to cut it I'd probs do it diagonally and make it so I can use the other one as a stump aswell. planthelper Posted August 28, 2014 nailsnail, don't re cut the pedro... in_spirits advice is very good, and you should heed it, in future, but not in this instance. because, there is a likely hood, that you will cut away, the areola which is just in the process of forming, the pup! in short you might cut off, the inmature pup, and this would mean, you will have, to start over waiting for your pup to emerge.
Nailthesnail Posted August 28, 2014 head it when the pup arrives and give it enough space to make another plant? I will cut when the pup is big enough to collect. If it fricken pups this year! I will keep it away from the rain until I am ready to cut it aye? Cheers for the great advice guys literal life saver!
Dreamwalker. Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) put it on a bit of a lean ...so water can't pool on top of it.. or cut it with a 15 degree angle about 100mm above ground level, then cut the remaining 300 - 400mm in 1/2...be sure to mark the top parts with a felt tip....allow the 2 spare cuts to dry for a few weeks ....plant in well draining mix etc etc...then you'll have 3 plants....& you can let the pups mature on the old stems...as the stumps will be minor....... Nailthesnail Posted August 28, 2014 I was thinking wait for the pup to get a nice side that I can pull it off, Take pup off, Cut the stump down a little so the water won't pool I am not too worried about how many plants I have I just want it too look nice lol I may do three though when I get to the pupping stage that is what I will decide on cheers dream walker
