Berengar Posted June 21, 2014 Some consider them as no1 edible mushroom, i find them rather bland and too soft. They have to be very young and completely white, and cooked imediately, they dont keep well at all. Their mycelium is a worthy addition to the compost pile.
waterboy 2.0 Posted June 21, 2014 (edited) I'm with Tangich in regards to being completely white, only ever eaten the youngsters thinly sliced and fried with onions, then onto toast.... Apparently they can be sliced and fast dehydrated by dehydrator only (not air dried) but have never tried it. Once they start deliquescence ("melting") there is no stopping them breaking down. Also they are a great introduction into compost piles, worthy of growing and spreading about. I remember reading somewhere they are able to kill and consume a couple of nematode species, dunno how true that is though. Edible, they are OK ....prefer others myself but worthy a mung. EDIT - they produce a fair bit of liquid that I strain off Edited June 21, 2014 by waterboy
Zen Peddler Posted June 22, 2014 They tend to taste and have the consistency of scrambled egg.
