0 zed240 Posted June 18, 2014 Could it be chlorophyllum molybdites? Did you do a spore print?

0 Jack Posted June 18, 2014 No spore print, will go back tomorrow.. are Chlorophyllum edible?
0 zed240 Posted June 18, 2014 chlorophyllum molybdites = no, not edible. Makes you quite sick in the guts, vomit and such for hours. Chlorophyllum brunneum - yes but not recommended for novices due to the ease you can mistake it with molybdites. molybdites has a green spore print, brunneum should have a white spore print. Sometimes Chlorophyllum species can be taken mistakenly when looking for macrolepiota species which are the "edible parasol" mushrooms. That is what I have read anyway. I'm yet to positively ID a Chlorophyllum in the wild as I don't think they are found here in SA very much if at all, although i have eaten macrolepiota clelandii. (it tasted great BTW)
0 dionysus Posted June 18, 2014 Chlorophyllum Molybdites are poisonous, however, Chlorophyllum Brunneum are edible when (well) cooked. C. Molybdites will have a green spore (as apposed to white), but apart from that will look relatively identical.C. Brunneum causes allergic reactions often even when cooked, so, if you identify your mushroom as this eat only a small portion first etc.-dio
0 Berengar Posted June 18, 2014 Season, habitat and general appearance rule out C. molybdites almost certainly. But by all means, if you think about eating them, check the spore print first.
