Boomshankar! Posted March 29, 2014 Just wondering if anyone knows of any good cacti ID books? Is there an encyclopedia of cacti and succulents like there is for psychoactive plants?
0 prier Posted March 31, 2014 Yes there are many good books, I've posted about this numerous times. The one you want is The New Cactus Lexicon, and don't complain about the cost, good books cost money. Every other general Cacti book is now fairly useless. Other than that you would want books on specific genera. http://www.newcactuslexicon.org/

0 hostilis Posted April 11, 2014 I would love to get a hold of the NCL. I wonder why they don't just print more off.
0 M S Smith Posted April 12, 2014 Check out "Cacti: The Illustrated Dictionary" if you are interested in a guide to globular cactus identification. http://www.amazon.com/Cacti-Illustrated-Dictionary-Rod-Preston-Mafham/dp/0881924008 Not cactus, but the companion is "Succulents: The Illustrated Dictionary." http://www.amazon.com/Succulents-Illustrated-Dictionary-Maurizio-Sajeva/dp/0881923982 If interested in columnar identification then check out Bob Ressler's Flickr.com pages. https://www.flickr.com/photos/wwwcolumnarcactuscom/sets/ ~Michael~
