Getafix Posted March 11, 2014 May or may not interest you. Of all the hybrids I have growing this one shows the most diversity. Have a look at these four plants, all the same cross from the same batch of seedlings. What do you reckon they are? Evil Genius Posted March 11, 2014 Hi Getafix, this is extremely difficult. Cuzcoensis x Bridgesii or Bridgesii x Terscheckii. The angular Ribs look a lot like Cuzcoensis. But i think the Spines look a bit Terscheckii as well.

Getafix Posted March 11, 2014 Pach x Terscheckii. Not a particularly exciting cross but very pretty plants nonetheless. I have another 5 or 6 plants of that cross from that batch and not one looks the same.

Evil Genius Posted March 11, 2014 Very nice Cross and very diverse Plants! It´s fun to see how variable Crosses can be. Your post is EXTREMELY valuable for people who are interested in Taxonomy and Identification because it show´s how diverse Hybrids can be. Out of a cross, some Plants can look totally unlike the Others. That´s why i usually retain from commenting on the Father or Mother of a cross. Sure, you can see some Features and use them to determine the direction the cross goes but in some cases, it´s impossible. Cacti can change their appearance completely just within one generation. Good examples are intergeneric Hybrids. Some Crosses look like they come from Mars and very unlike the Parents.
Getafix Posted March 11, 2014 Spot on EG and just shows how difficult if not impossible it is to really accurately guess a plants origins unless you have personal knowledge of where they came from. One day I will loss my labels and my my mind with old age and will have no idea what half my cacti are

Evil Genius Posted March 11, 2014 Spot on EG and just shows how difficult if not impossible it is to really accurately guess a plants origins unless you have personal knowledge of where they came from. One day I will loss my labels and my my mind with old age and will have no idea what half my cacti are Story of my life. lol. Lost many Labels in the past so i started writing everything in a book. But still, my documentation is not as good as it should be. It´s just too much to label sometimes.
Getafix Posted March 11, 2014 A book, good idea EG. I am sure my collection is nothing like the size of yours but still a good idea. Will get on to it before I forget
magical9 Posted March 12, 2014 hmm being a techy.. er recovering techy... maybe ill run a database with all my cactus as i start my cactus farm select trichocereus from inventory where garden_plot = '23' and status_avail = "1" and variant like '%bridg%'; something like that! heh. now you got me thinking... a nice little interface that i just plug in my cactus info real quickly and its all organized for later use, personal or business.
