doxneed2c-me Posted January 20, 2014 A friend of mine is scheduled for an endoscopy to examine and repair the source of blood in his stool. Multiple doctors suggested it is a vein which ruptured in his intestine and he will be fine but he called me today very worried and I had little advice for him and I am wondering if there is a plant which may help slow the bleeding until his surgery. I read about his condition and it normally isn't much blood but it dilutes in toilet water and looks like a lot more. Just trying to reassure or assist him until he gets his surgery. Distracted Posted January 20, 2014 Placebo sp. is a great plant that should sort him out in the meantime until he sees a doctor.
Yeti101 Posted January 20, 2014 I suggest that if multiple doctors have told your friend the same thing then he should follow the instructions given by these doctors (or at least the instructions given by the specialist). There are traditional treatments for internal bleeding, but I would not choose them over modern techniques. If the doctors are right, then your friend will probably be fine and the endoscopy will solve the mystery. If something is amiss and the doctors are wrong (unlikely, but it could happen) then your friend won't need herbs, he'll need the ER. If he is stressed/anxious whilst waiting for a full diagnosis then he should find a way of dealing with it, in a way is not going to risk worsening his condition or interact badly with any existing medication.
Anodyne Posted January 20, 2014 No, fucking about with coagulants is a bad idea. If the doctors haven't given him any specific advice to the contrary, I would say that he might be able to help his condition by adjusting his diet. I think they usually say to avoid any foods like seeds & grains/legumes with tough coatings (corn, chickpeas etc). This is because these are not broken down before they reach the bowels, and if there is a small rupture they may stick in it and cause an infection. They also recommend avoiding constipation, as the extra pressure can widen the tear and prevent it from healing.
doxneed2c-me Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) I told him to drink chamomile, passionflower, and lemongrass tea. Placebo and it should calm his nerves. I have told him to add fresh mint and ginger to the tea or have another tisane made of these things because I know these are good for decreasing most symptoms relating to bowel disturbances. I have suggested this knowing that his condition is exacerbated by and gastrointestinal distress. He knows this is not to improve his condition but simply get him through until the beginning of February when he will see the surgeon. I have told him regardless of if the condition improves drastically he will need to see the surgeon. Edited January 21, 2014 by doxneed2c-me
