Banisteriopsis Caapi grows in New Zealand climate?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if it survives in Nz Climate.

Would really love to grow it but not sure if it would survive the winters.

From what I've seen from the people I know who grow it over there you need a greenhouse generally..although I'm not sure if maybe there are some warmer spots further north or something where they'd survive outside.

I would highly doubt it would cope in the south island outdoors during winter. Up here from Auckland north is probably an okay climate for it. Would need to stay urban or coastal to avoid the frosts. Mine hid in the green house over winter and managed to put on a bit of growth.

Speaking of caapi. I managed to propagate a cutting off mine the other day. Dipped an accidentally broken off stem in cheap rooting powder, put it in moist sphagnum moss, used a cut coke bottle as a humidity dome, left it for 3weeks and it developed a real nice set of roots.
