tizocAu Posted August 19, 2013 (edited) I have some questions or a question regarding grafting a 2 cm trichocereus seedling into a peres stock. I wanted to graft it into a small pachanoi pup ...is it possible or do u need a peres? I figuredI the sion is big enough for this type of stock. What do you think? EthnoGuy85 Posted August 19, 2013 You can graft to a small pup. You won't get the crazy fast growth of the Pere but it will work. I've done this a few times as emergency grafts and they turned out fine
Sallubrious Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) It will be a tricky little thing to graft. You need to apply downward pressure onto the scion or it will move around as the stock dries out and contracts in the first two weeks or so after the graft is done. Having a scion that small will make it awkward to get enough downward pressure and not have the scion tip over and/or slide away. I wouldn't do it myself, but if you must do it only use a short cut from the tip of the seedling so it's less likely to fall over when you weight it down or tape it down etc. Edited August 20, 2013 by SallyD
GoOnThen Posted August 20, 2013 If you want to graft the seedling I would not bother with the pere as it will be to large ( diameter ) to sit nicely on the skinny little pere. As SallyD said cut the seeding in half ( leave the bottom in the pot it will pup) and graft the top to the pup. Cut the pup high as the vascular ring will be smaller towards the tip. I would also use stocking material to apply pressure just place over the top pull down and hook it onto the splines. Adjust the scion to make sure it overlaps the vascular ring. I would make sure you have a good amount of pressure without squashing the scion and then place in a shaded spot with a plastic bag over the graft for a couple of days. You can leave the stocking on for as long as you want especially if you are wearing heels, garter belt and a short skirt . Cheers Got
EthnoGuy85 Posted August 20, 2013 You can also graft the bottom half of the seedlings too. Since it is inverted it will pup like mad. Scop x Pach inverted graft And peruvianus BK 08612.9 seedling grafted too Pach in the spring....
