I recently had a spiky specimen pop up in my garden, spiky in terms of the arrangement of the grains on the end of each stem. Had no idea what it was or where it had come from, but I recently noticed the same grass growing at a nearby lake so no doubt I can thank a bird or two for planting mine .

Can anyone identify it for me? Is it native?
