ramon Posted February 27, 2003 Anybody in Brisbane or Ipswich see the F1 11's flanking the passenger jet this morning. Expected to hear that we are at high terrorist alert but no mention of it in the TV. Saw two F1 11's flying right behind the wings of a passenger jet today. I swear they looked about two meters behind the wings. I am near Ipswich and not normally under a flight path
mesq Posted February 28, 2003 Ramon that would have been an RAAF Boeing 707 Converted Fuel Tanker... They would have been doing a standard refuel.. that would be my first guess.. though it could have been an Escort practise..
ramon Posted February 28, 2003 Don't think it was refuelling as they were all in a very tight formation. Just thought at the time that it would be too dangerous to be so close to a passenger jet for just practice but I guess it could have been empty. If anything happens and this becomes standard practice then the people who live under flight paths are not going to be happy. The noise of the three planes was amazing. mesq Posted February 28, 2003 As i said probably refuelling... See this pic.. http://www.defence.gov.au/aerospacecentre/...Hornet_B707.jpg
ramon Posted February 28, 2003 Refuelling two at a time would fit the bill fairly well apart from how low they were flying
Noveltea Posted February 28, 2003 Once in suburban melb, i saw some kind of fighter jet-in the sky with two distinct burners. It first caught my eye because it seemed to be hovering in one spot for a few secs, but then took off. I'd seen footage on docos of fighter jets hovering, but i never knew they could stop in the air like that! anyone know what kind of plane i may have seen? squiresk Posted February 28, 2003 The british have harriers, which can hover. But I doubt theres any down here. Kai You could search for VTOL
mesq Posted March 1, 2003 Ramon:Refuelling two at a time would fit the bill fairly well apart from how low they were flying The fact that it was at low altitude probably means it was an escort...I used to like living under the flight path because the guys who did the Aerobatics would sometimes practise above my neighbourhood... a bit annoying for some but I loved it..
