Guest electro Posted January 31, 2003 Why is there never mention of a cactus extraction that uses a base first. Does this degrade the alkaloids, or would it be perfectly viable to blend fresh material, add a base, dry the sludge then rehydrate with xylene. Filtration Should be easier, and less crap should be present in the solvent. It would probably save huge amounts of solvent being used. acid base acid extraction after this should leave a crystalline substance, especially if the final acid addition if gaseous (through the xylene), with crystals recovered from solvent by filtration.
