You use cardboard to grow a culture to a nice size (surface area) and then inoculate a more nutritious spawn/bulk with that cardboard. So basically you cannot use it as a brf cake. Maybe if you add nutrients to the cardboard it would work better? I also think that would increase the risk of contams and therefore defeats the purpose of using cardboard in the first place. I could be wrong though. The less nutrients in your mushrooms the less nutrients they give you, oysters taste MUCH better with a high nutrient content. Bigred Posted August 30, 2012 you do ad poo coir i just saw a tek on myctopia that uses pasteurized cardboard and coir poo etc the cardboard is like the glue that holds it all together and they say its highly contam resistant.
