Fenris Posted July 15, 2004 I recently heard that there is an Australian native plant that is up to 8 times stronger than Valium. Apparently the plant grows out here in the West. Does anyone know of or use this plant? Is its chemical structure Benzo related?

Fenris Posted July 18, 2004 There was a gardening program on cable TV a couple of weeks ago, the guy had a back yard full of bush tucker and bush medicine, he mentioned all his plants by name but refused to divulge the names of the medicinal plants such as the one that was supposed to be the native valium substitute. There was also something that was claimed to be equivalent in pain killing to morphine, and another one which was for aiding sleep.
Guest electro Posted July 18, 2004 which cable tv, what was the program called, who was this person ... any details so we can chase this up ... this is definatley worth chasing up, even if i have to write to him
Rev Posted July 19, 2004 Sure. If he doesnt want to give away names thats fine all we need is a few of us in the room and some good books and we'll key it out
planthelper Posted July 19, 2004 i would not get too hyped up, ...it's likely to be as much valium like, as a native plum is plum like... only potatoes contain minute traces of diazepam. btw, valium and benzos suck. Rev Posted July 20, 2004 yes they are probably abusing pharmacological data pertaining to its mode or duration of action However considereing Valium and Valerian have i think similar modes of action, and 'twighlighting' (fluttering in a euphoric dissociative state at the border of sleep) with Valerian is one of the few sedatives i like (i seem to be unusually susceptible in this way) considering that then i am Very interested in something that might be like that Also Indian Valerian is much stronger than the European variety. spaced Posted July 20, 2004 Well I've heard of Karri trees knocking people out but that's something else altogether. I vaguely recall Perth based (at the time - 2000,2001) company Bioprospect talking about their finds of such compounds in native plants in an article in the West Australian. So maybe there is some truth to it. But then this would be very much "classified information." "8 times stronger than Valium." That could mean a lot of things - eg an extract or purified chemical from the plant binds with eight times the strength of Valium. It's all a bit vague. Some extra info would be helpful. This guy should join the forums.
