Portobello pups first ever attempt at growing mushrooms

Recommended Posts

Hi I just bought my very first mushroom kit from flower power. I really enjoyed watching these guys grow and I think I am at the beginning of a new chapter in my life (the mushroom chapter).

I don't really know much about it so I am asking you guys how long would it take to get some decent size ones sort of breakfast size. I took this picture today.

Also would possible to get the spores from this ones continually re-grow them ? So I don't have to buy another kit and keep a sustainable mushroom supply going (please excuse my lack of technical lingo I am new to this).

The big pup in the middle is about 1cm in diameter.

Cheers,

Nice spawn, i think i may have tried a simular product.

Is the box you got them in about the same as an "archive box"?

Yes that is right it is about the size of an archive box. I paid about 30 bucks for it.

nice colonization and beginnings of pins. (pups are cacti-terminology).

forget about spores for edibles, the way to go is tissue culture.

get yourself a copy of this book "Growing Gourmet & Medicinal Mushrooms" by Paul Stamets. Da Bible!

"Pins" Note taken - Cacti was my first live :)

Hey Members2 I like the link you posted is pretty full on. I struggled a little bit so I watched some YouTube videos. Is a little bit more clearer now. I am going to take some notes and do a little experiment with wolies button mushrooms.

I am going to document my experiment and post pics.

Cheers,
