niggles Posted December 6, 2011 This flower opened just before the weekend, I took a few photos, housemate thinks it looks a bit strange. Unfortunately my careful labelling has washed away at some point so I dont have the details or where I got it anymore.
bit Posted December 6, 2011 Hi Niggles. The layering effect and changing tones are what makes echinopsis flowers so awesome, and so collectable. Looks perfectly normal (and beautiful!) to me
niggles Posted December 6, 2011 thanks bit, me words no worky so good with a head cold after a wonderful weekend. apothecary was saying he thought the stamen bit out the middle was an unusual feature. With my quick look at google images i saw flowers without the little stem poking out the middle. You have no idea how hard tyhis was to write i opened new windows and deleted everything at least twice.
kadakuda Posted December 6, 2011 lol. When your all sober n such, google flower anatomy. the middle thing that is all octopus like is the style/stigma which is the female organ more or less like a vagina. this legy thing takes the pollen and the pollen grows a long tube down that stem (style) and sends is sperm down to the ovule (egg) and fertilizes it. A beautiful, but normal, looking flower
