Piper betle strange balls

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

My Piper betle (if it even is the real thing) makes lots of little balls on the underside of the leafs and when they dry up they become blackish.

Can someone tell me what these little balls are and if it's bad or good that they're on there?

That's certainly not good. Heavily infested with somekind of scale insect. I'd dispose of the most damaged leaves and spray pesticides on the remaining.

Looks like the real thing.

the balls are unlikely from the piper, but rather from an insect.

im no piper expert but they can be fairly variable in leaf size/shape. When in doubt i go by taste/smell.
