eLwAd Posted November 18, 2011 Just wondering if there are any conditions which induce trichs to pup. Almost all my trichs with singular grow tips have started to pup at the same time. peruvianus and bridge, not the pach as they are multi tipped. thinking it might be that they are all in the ground as all the potted ones bar one are not following this trend. Also they all have two pups, coincidence or do they just do this, only the psycho0 and the spach are not pupping, just growing uber fast
Sir Jeans Posted November 18, 2011 All else being equal they will generally grow faster in the ground, which I'd imagine would induce more pups. If your interested in inducing pupping, perhaps try some coconut milk - there are a couple of threads about it on these forums. It supposedly contains something that induces pupping, as well as being highly nutritious for plants. From memory, it was suggested to put one can of regular coconut milk (400ml approx) into a 10L watering can. I did this to about a dozen pachanoi cuttings that were rooted but with no pups about 6 weeks ago, and since then they pretty much all have three pups on top of them. But of course, I can't rule out the possibility that this would have happened anyway.
tipz Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) BAP works well... I have not tried it.. this is just from researching SAB and various sites. It can be bought off ebay. I have seen photographic results that are quite amazing. I believe it was applied to the aereoles after being mixed with lanoline and from what i could see - every aereole treated would throw a pup. Google it and search the forums here if that sounds of interest Edited November 19, 2011 by tipz
J Smith Posted November 19, 2011 I have a 30cm bridge in the ground that got axed by slugs/snails last spring. Completely ate the growing tip. It has thrown out 5 base and 2 tip pups in the last couple of months.
cactuscarl Posted November 19, 2011 My potted ones have all pupped numerous pups even the little ones under 25cm i think it's all the heat I've just tried the coconut milk so if i get a few more pups it'll convince me it works I'll let ya know how it goes Another theory is if you wash some soil away to expose some trunk previously under ground it'll pup from there quicker which seemed to work for me
naja naja Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) i find that the ones I piss on pup from the base more readily. Also, I have started using GoGo juice ( a probiotic) and this seems to have induced very large basal pups in plants in pots. I havn't used as much on the garden beds, but will certainly give more now after seeing the results in a small pot (30cm) P.S. Also been applying seasol and powerfeed at two weekly intervals, large amounts of blood and bone and dynamic lifter, there was also an application of seamungus about 8 weeks ago also. eLwAd Posted November 19, 2011 yeah was thinking of starting with the miracle gro this week now they're settled in, though how do they cope with the blood and bone because it's high in nitro yeah, and they don't need as much as other plants i thought? obviously it's working for you so i might give it a lash with some coconut. and transplant all the potted ones into the ground to get more growth
