NSF Posted February 10, 2011 Well i'm now a city kid who misses the country but in recent days, with rainfall and tropics like humidity i've noticed shrooms springing up everywhere. How are the edibles going out in rural and bushy areas? Worth a drive on the weekend?
∂an Posted February 11, 2011 this queenslander been doing some hiking in victoria and snapped these fungi in the yarra ranges over the last week (after all the rain on the weekend): first time hunting in vic so not really sure of the species. were a few others I didn't get photos of, some of which in hindsight look very similar to photos of subs on this forum... is it possible they could fruit in feb? is it just the moisture they need, or are the cool temperatures also needed for them to fruit? NSF Posted February 11, 2011 (edited) Hey kalika, i was born and raised in the yarra valley, my folks are still out there, where'd you find these interesting specimens? Do you remember town or trail names? You could submit these to fungimap too. And i should have also said great photos! Hence my curiosity. Hence my curiosity. yep I was hiking through the yara state forest just north of the Latrobe river, towards starling hill. there are walking tracks and fire trails all through that area. for a state forest it is really beautiful area, although many of the taller trees have been logged out. when I get positive ID's I will upload to fungi map for sure. definitely go for a hunt this weekend, make sure you take your camera! bon chance Edited February 11, 2011 by kalika
NSF Posted February 11, 2011 @kalika you don't have to get a positive ID, i've sent in photos (normally pairs with shots showing shroom and substrate and one of gills and stipe) they will ID them and reply slowly with an email. Very handy mycologists.
