A. Peregrina

Recommended Posts

Hey guys

Does anyone have this plant/seeds in their possession, A. Peregrina? Would love to get my hands on it, will trade or pay cash for it. Cheers!

Peace

Sadly this is super rare in Aus and alot of colubrina gets passed off as peregrina on the net so it's even harder to find the real thing. The other annoying thing is that while Anadananthera colubrina is on AQIS Schedule 5 (importable seeds not requiring a permit) Anadananthera peregrina is not which makes it harder again to get even if one were to find a real source, then of course theres the seeds short viabilty it seems that the whole world is colluding to stop peregrina getting to Australia. Still I do hope your lucky and find some real stuff.

Does that mean its illegal to grow? That would explain a little about availability..find it HARD to believe that people would be importing colubrina left, right and centre without as much as a thought towards peregrina!

Peace

http://www.shaman-australis.com.au/Website/Shamanmainpageframeset.htm

there is very little info or good images on the net that allows one to correctly id the two, a lot of the trees people think are peregrina are actually columbrina..

from wiki..

Anadenanthera peregrina, also known as Yopo, Jopo, Cohoba, Mopo, Nopo, Parica or Calcium Tree, is a perennial tree of the Anadenanthera genus native to the Caribbean and South America.[1] It grows up to 20 m tall, having a thorny bark. Its flowers are pale yellow to white and spherical. It is not listed as being a threatened species. It is an entheogen used in healing ceremonies and rituals. It is also a well known source of dietary calcium.

Bufotenin

The beans have been found to contain up to 7.4% bufotenin.[12] At up to 7.4 % (74 mg per gram) bufotenin, an effective 40 mg dose of insufflated bufotenin[12] requires little more than 0.5 grams of beans.

The intraperitoneal LD50 of bufotenin is between 200–300 mg/kg (in rodents) with death occurring by respiratory arrest. The LD50 in rodents amounts to between 10,000 mg and 15,000 mg for a small 50 kg (110 lb) adult.[13] Based on the intraperitoneal LD50 for rodents, at 74 mg per gram, it would require approximately 135 grams of beans to reach the estimated LD50of bufotenin for a 50 kg (110 lb) adult. Human intravenous tests using bufotenin suggest the LD50 may be much lower in humans with subjects showing signs of peripheral toxicity (purple face, tachycardia, difficulty breathing, etc.) at doses as little as 8 mg in some subjects.[14] Free base bufotenin when insufflated, taken sublingually, orally, or intrarectally, elicits strong hallucinogenic effects with far less side effects[12].

[edit] Dimethyltryptamine and 5-MeO-DMT

The effects of insufflated DMT and 5-MeO-DMT are relatively short acting, lasting about 1 hour, while the effects of insufflated yopo typically last 2–3 hours. Of the three main compounds present, only insufflated bufotenine lasts 2–3 hours. Claims of Anadenanthera peregrina containing DMT and 5-MeO-DMT as their main active ingredients are based on rare cases where these compounds are found in larger quantities than bufotenine. Typical acid base extraction techniques utilizing strong bases such as sodium hydroxide solution will exclude bufotenin from the extraction, in favor of DMT and 5-MeO-DMT. It is believed[citation needed] that such extractions have contributed to the misconception that bufotenin is a minor alkaloid in yopo. The majority of the extractions confirm that bufotenin is primarily responsible for the effects of yopo with the other compounds usually appearing in quantities too small to produce noticeable effects in an average yopo dose of 5-10 grams[citation needed].

The beans have been found to contain up to only 0.04% 5-MeO-DMT and 0.16% DMT.[12] The leaves and bark also contain small amounts of DMT, 5-MeO-DMT and related compounds.[15]

At up to 0.04% (0.4 mg per gram) 5-MeO-DMT, an effective light 5 mg dose of insufflated 5-MeO-DMT (5-MeO-DMT dosage, Erowid.org) would require over 12 grams of beans. It would be extremely difficult to insufflate the 12 grams of beans (approximately 72 beans) needed to reach the active dose of 5-MeO-DMT present in the beans. The body would begin to develop tolerance to 5-MeO-DMT before being able to insufflate all 12 grams of beans. Individual sensitivity to 5-MeO-DMT varies. Its been documented that the threshold dose in some individuals is as much as 10 mg insufflated[16] requiring over 24 grams of beans for an effective dose of 5-MeO-DMT.

At up to 0.16% (1.6 mg per gram) DMT, an effective 40 mg dose of insufflated DMT would require 25 grams or more. It’s likely to be impossible to insufflate the 25 grams of beans required to reach the active dose of DMT present in the beans. An extract of 25 grams of beans could contain up to 1,850 mg of bufotenin, a potentially dangerous dose of bufotenin. With insufflated free-base bufotenin, the maximum published safe dose used has been 100 mg.[12]

Unlike bufotenin, both DMT and 5-MeO-DMT are relatively unstable and begin to degrade rather quickly. Schultes and colleges (1977) examined a 120 year old bean collection and found 0.6% bufotenin with no DMT or 5-MeO-DMT present at all. They also examined a batch of beans that contained all three compounds when fresh, but found only bufotenin in the beans after only two years of storage.[13]

The hallucinogenic effects from bufo in snuff made from colubrina only lasts about 20mins with after effects ranging from about 1-2hrs. 2-3hrs is just silly. The snuff isn't very pleasant either tastes horrible and theres just so much to shove up ya hooter its horrendous. It's worth a try though but not something one would be doing alot. Also the wiki article I guess begs the question, did these researchers really have peregrina or was it another case of mistaken identity, because subjective effects from reports of South american shamans seems that they are very different in the kind of visuals and other effects given which seems to show that bufo is not the main or only constituent of yopo that exerts a noticable effect.

I thought this was interesting...

FWIW, have found the effects from a couple of chunky lines lasts about 45mins with residulas hanging around for another 30 mins max, very nauseating at first but once it kicks in the nausea goes and it's one hell of a visual ride, fair amount of face and chest pinching too, visuals stunning and not dmt like at all.

Yeh very intense nausea at the start but luckily it passes quickly. Yeh its very unlike dmt in that everything looks kinda like its covered in writhing colourful worms. I also find it interesting that both 5-MeO-DMT and DMT seem to degrade so quickly, I mean it seems they degrade awfully quick much quicker than they should anyway. I also find it funny that changing the phenol group by just 1 position on the ring takes the compound from an extremely unstable compound to and extremely stable one, I doubt you'd find a better example of how positional isomerism can affect stability. Sorry we've kind fo hijacked this thread now lol.
