.dg Posted July 17, 2009 Greetings All!! my first seedlings are parents, one has 10-15 seed pods and they are all blooming like crazy. sorry these are the best pics i have at the moment... so, how do i know when my little pink seedpods are ready to harvest? methods for storage? do i pull the seeds from the pods and let dry? or leave in fruit body to dry?(my gut says to remove seeds from pod before drying..) thanks to all who take the time to reply dg
zelly Posted July 17, 2009 Let the fruits dry out completely. When completely dry you may pluck them from the plant. With a scissors, snip off the dried flower tops and the wispy fuzzy like hair at the bottom of the seed pod when you remove it from the plant. Keep the seeds in sterile like conditions by leaving them in the pod, until ready to plant. Dried pods crumble easily when rolled between thumb & finger. .dg Posted July 17, 2009 be carful of ants or birds or anything stealing the fruits. I dont let mine dry on the plant cos they never make it that far with out getting taken away. birds aren't too big of an issue in my greenhouse, but ants can be. if you pluck the fruits when they are still hydrated are the seeds ripe? thanks for the replies Y'all!! kindness Posted July 17, 2009 Yep, ants steal heaps of mine. Even indoors. I wait for them to be fully emerged and pink looking and remove before the ants come hunting. man, if it's not possums around here it's bushrats and if it ain't bushrats it's ants and if it ain't ants it's caterpillars and if it ain't caterpillars....... zelly Posted July 18, 2009 The only time I pick the fruits while they're still pink & fresh is when I'm going to make a batch of jam. I cant imagine too many people have had home made lopho jam.
