Found this near my home in South East Queensland and haven't seen this kind of flower on an Acacia before. Anyone know what this classifies as?

Hey man and welcome :)

I'm not thinking Acacia species, i reckon from what i can tell by the pics ( old flowers and bark) that it may be an Agonis species of some sort, common name is "willow myrtle", maybe? check it out-

Have a good new year!!

Yep, smells like peppermint, must be Willow Myrtle.

Happy new year :)

If the flowers are bright yellow and borne in spring I would have a tendency to suggest Daviesia arborea - not sure how far north it gets though.
