bob-bob Posted August 29, 2008 I have UTSE but cannot find the answers I need. My question is, is there any morning glory or other similar climber (ie HBRW) that would be considered "active" that sets seed in an area such as Sydney? Cheers.
Yeti101 Posted August 30, 2008 Are you looking for something that is already growing around Sydney? (eg semi wild ect) Or do you mean "What should I plant that will grow in the Sydney area that is active?" If it's the first I can't really help, as most Morning Glory type things I see growing around as weeds do not seem to set seed. But if you are planting, then something like Ipomoea violacea, Morning Glory - Heavenly Blue should work fine.

Torsten Posted August 30, 2008 Heavenly Blue definitely sets seed in sydney. are you sure you have the right species?
bob-bob Posted August 30, 2008 I think I have confused I. violacea or I. tricolor which ever it may be with I. indica. I. Indica Flowers are distinct violet-blue, 5 to 8cmin diameter occurring anytime in the year, particularly in warmer months. Rarely sets seed in Australia. Spreads vegetatively. http://www.warringah.nsw.gov.au/environmen...ngglory_000.pdf But thanks for clearing that up for me.
Torsten Posted August 31, 2008 so, this was a wild plant you were referring to? best to share such info as we could have told you what species that would be. wild + no seed + sydney = I.indica
bob-bob Posted September 1, 2008 haha you live and learn, I can't believe all this time I have not grown Heavenly Blue thinking it didn't set seed. Thanks for clearing that up.
