Need ID on crest.

Found this beautiful sucker at the local bunnings.

Hoping it might be a tricho.. maybe a T. Spachianus.. any guesses?

The answer was given to me by the source of this crest, it is apparently a Borzicactus samaipatanus.

i got one from bunnings about a month ago which looks just like yours bob, probably both came from hamiltons & perhaps the same clone or from a close batch.

I was lucky enough to pick up one of these, about three times the size, from Kmart. Hamilton's stock. Was cool though as they had heaps of neglected cacti (which ISN'T cool) at the time. I noticed that they had a large one of these crests sitting in the tray out of it's pot, barely any roots, the ones it did have were bone dry (Kmart are real cacti enthusiasts aern't they?). I convinced one of the employees that I would care for it properly as they were likely to just throw it out anyway. It had been sitting there for around 2 months. The let me have it for nothing. Was pretty stoked!

I took it home and put it in some good cacti mix with added sieved river sand and a bit of perlite and now it is doing really well. Will try and get a photo up soon.

I think Borzicactus samaipatanus is the old name. Pretty sure it is called Chamaecereus samaipatanus, don't quote me on that though, cacti nomenclature is far too confusing in many cases.

Man, I will have to try that one PD next time I go to Kmart. Last time I was there nearly the entire stock of cacti on the shelves had rotted and the survivors were treading water for dear life.
