Recommended Posts

I guess this is a good time for you to get your rocks off, and give me an ID... i think I saw an ID for this in another thread a while back, but never got around to writing it down. It is naturally skinny, im not sure if that can be perceived in pics :) thanks guys :)

Not entirely sure on this one, but going from the shape of the flower and the general shape of the actual plant, I'd say it's almost certainly in the echinopsis genera. Cant help out much more than that without doing some hard searching, but I'm sure someone will be able to tell ya without much effort.

Nice flower!

No idea how to tell echinopsis by flower, I understand trichocereus literally means hairy flower, so that's a good indicator of trichs, but now they've fucked with the names again haven't they?

I have an old book titled, "grow cactus", within it, the definition given for trichocereus is, "hairy cereus, referring to the areoles"

Top photo is Corryocactus, melanotrichus probably. It's from Bolivia.

Stiched, your top one is possibly linked to The Huntington Gardens macrogonus, it floats around SA and Vic. quite a bit it seems, though I guess Smithy would be call it a pachanoi. ;) It regularly stops growing and puts out pups from the tip possibly because of areole fusion - check out the "Terminal weirdness" thread.

Bottom one is a Cereus, some of them are really slow growing I'm finding.
