friendly Posted January 8, 2008 I saw a tincture of Ps. subaerugensis (sp?) that glowed bright blue under black light. Has anyone tried a blacklight on these mushrooms to see if the betacarboline that glowed is endogenous or exogenous? I am quite curious, but have no access to that species here in the USA. MORG Posted January 9, 2008 Quick correction: specific epithet is subaeruginosa. No idea if they glow under blacklight but next time I'm near both I'll test it out
ferret Posted January 9, 2008 i beleive that at least psilocybin glows violet under UV, most likely psilocin as well as other tryptamines. as it is used to visualise on tlc plates.

friendly Posted January 22, 2008 (edited) OK, I found it. it's Harmine hydrochloride. It's in trout's 'Ayahauasca; Alkaloids, Plants and Analogues' in the harmine section. "Harmine hydrochloride solutions have blue fluorescence--Merck index" "Crystalline material showed blue fuorescence O'Connell & Lynn 1953" "Fluoresces indigo blue in acidic solution, yellow-green in alkaloid solutions (transition within the interval ph 7.2-7.9) Marion 1952, pg 394, citing Iznallov and Shronberg 1938" Edited January 22, 2008 by friendly
