new tabernanthe

Recommended Posts

what a load of toss!!

This specimen was discovered by the Dutch in the Netherlands and confirmed by a botanist in Ghana. This specimen was officially botanically classified by Lambo Seeds. This specimen is a previously unknown and rare type of Tabernanthe grown below the jungles and tropical Ghana forest.

No botanist is named, which makes the type rather unbelievable. If lambo 'officially' classified this seed, thne where is the reference?? Considering that Tabernanthe is now officially a monotypic genus (ie it only has one species - the previous species are now merely varieties), it is unlikley that he has discovered a separate species.

Lambo is obviously doing this to get around the US laws re iboga. And good on him if he succeeds. However, at the same time he might be getting othe rpeople into trouble who carelessly grow this plant, which will undoubtedly be illegal in the US if it really is a Tabernanthe.

I have my doubts that it is Tabernanthe though. Tabernanthe has a very distinctive seedcoat. Tabernaemontana also have a distinctive seedcoat. And while the two are quite closely related, the seed he shows is NOT Tabernanthe iboga.

Several suppliers in africa are touting this non iboga seed to be iboga seed (or a variant thereof). Fact is that they simply don't have the quantity of iboga seed they want to sell, so they resort to tabernaemontana. First they tried it quite carefully, but later they simply claimed that is the proper iboga seed.

There are only a handful of people I would trust with iboga seed ID..... and Lambo isn't one of them.
