apothecary Posted May 14, 2007 Why are cigarette filters not biodegradeable? Makes no sense to manufacture them out of whatever it is they use now (cotton?) instead of something biodegradeable. Maybe a good business idea? Could get a lobby behind it and it could be really successful?
ajna Posted May 14, 2007 (edited) i've thought about this before too actually, seems obvious enough and i agree a good marketing angle. edit just came across this from 05 - cigarette butts go green - http://environment.newscientist.com/articl...825202.800.html Edited May 14, 2007 by ajna
shruman Posted May 14, 2007 "Why are cigarette filters not biodegradeable?" I would think like most thing economics. "Makes no sense to manufacture them out of whatever it is they use now (cotton?)" I think they make them out of plastic.

Auxin Posted May 14, 2007 Cotton is biodegradable, cig filters are made of synthetic polymer. There are a great many biodergadable cigs already tho, I smoked them for 13 years, they are called non-filter.
Amulte Posted May 14, 2007 hehe so that rules out the self igniting cigarettes LOL. ive thought that same myself, any rollie smokers know where im coming from. most of the time a rollie butt is made of unused tobacco, thats bio degreabable isnt it? lol but some will argue otherwise based appon its a butt LOL
