soul-searching Posted June 23, 2006 (edited) Great day to all, I found these growing around my yard. First thing i noticed when they were healthy (3 days ago), they felt like a cross between leather and rubber, gave it a pinch but no blueing. today i went outside and now i'm a little curious as they were blue on the edges? any ideas? Here's another i found near by?? Edited June 23, 2006 by soul-searching
alkatrope Posted June 23, 2006 They look kinda like Subs.. But from those photos it's hard to tell. The gills in the second photo look a bit light, also.. Do some spore prints and maybe submit some photos from different angles.. Also check the smell, Subs have a fairly distinct smell.
soul-searching Posted June 23, 2006 thanks alkatrope, so far, i have only taken prints of the third,.. here's some extra shots.. ..it smells ...well...i'm having trouble describing it, but i don't think i like the smell...trouble is..i have never smelt subs (or found them)..so i don't have much of a clue as yet
alkatrope Posted June 23, 2006 Yeah I reckon it's a Sub, especially because of the blueing.

soul-searching Posted June 24, 2006 cheers! yep, i think i may just buy a lotto ticket this week..lol.. my first sub find...and in my own yard! hehe. I am almost sure that these are growing in chipboard!..which also leaves me wandering about the chemicals used in chipboard. could they be absorbed into the mushroom? soul-searching Posted June 25, 2006 yeah sorry guys....i guess i just wanted a second opinion.had to be sure . lol..totally understand, no apology needed. i think we both have a steep learning curve ahead if we wish to maintain a healthy patch..i know i do n'ways. id like to try to expand the patch a little, as mine don't seem to have much substrate around them. i was thinking of laying pine chips around the edges of the myc....lots to read about... best of luck with your patch frank..
