Recently I've had a snail or slug raid my drying rack & leave a few holes on the calloused end of two T. Bridgesii cuttings. One of the cuttings only had light nibbles & has already been planted after been left to callous for a little longer. The other cutting (displayed below) has deeper munch marks that create small tunnels in to the base of the cutting.
One of the tunnels curves around & is roughly 2-3cm deep. I'm going to leave the cutting out to callous well before planting, but wonder if the holes might present problems with rot later on? Would it be wise to seal them with something to prevent excess moisture accumulating in the tunnel?
Also, one of the Pach cuttings I received recently has some interesting growth at its base. My first thought was just rib numbers shifting a few times, but then I wondered could it have some monstrose genetics that later grew out?
If it has monstrose genetics, I've been thinking about waiting for the whole cutting to root in & get established, then eventually remove the normal upper growth & hope for some monstrose pups.
I've seen pups shift rib numbers a few times on some of my other cacti but not to this extent.... am I getting my hopes up for nothing?
