Have you ever seen a Ghost

I once saw a dog run out in front of a car and the car went through the dog and when the car had passed through the dog the dog disappeared. That is one of the most unexplainable things I've ever encountered. Apparently my aunty and uncle live in a haunted house and an older lady died in the room. They would often wake up in the night and see someone at the end of the bed also they had one of those sheet like things that go around your bed and up towards the roof, and they said that there has been a couple of times they have woken up to see the sheets parting and occasionally hear giggling coming from the kitchen in the middle of the night. Nothing as cool as some of the other stories members here have told though! Speaking of the Lemon-tree passage ghost you linked the story on Change, my sister and a few friends have done that and they "saw it" but I'm a little skeptical of it myself.

    acuminata branching out perhaps?

I'm not sure that those are the narrow phyllode variety of Acacia Acuminata as the phyllodes are much narrower. I then thought it could have been the regular variety of acuminata however the ends of the phyllodes of the tree you found aren't really that acuminate and are way more curvy than I remember the regular variety. I'd wait for someone better equipped to be sure of an ID but my novice skills would tend to say it's not sorry.

    Biodegradable Pots

Im planning on starting a bunch of acacias this spring and wanted a pot that I could quickly and easily put straight in the ground when they are the right size but that aren't terribly expensive since ill be needing a few. Anyone of you knowledgeable plant heads got any suggestions?
  6. Nice specimens there Alice! So close to home how could I not.. $30

    Biodegradable Pots

Thanks for all the advice guys! I think I'll go with the tube of tubes waterboy posted. I guess I could reuse the ones I get anyway so I'm still being environmentally friendly. SallyD, I'd be interested in purchasing larger quantities of pots since they really are quite expensive when done on small scale. I wouldn't need as many as I'd get but it's good to have a stock there

    Suspected Marasmius oreades

Now that I've went back and looked more at the old photos I have of the MO I see that my assumption was wrong and I learned to consider a new factor, gills. While this is obvious to most mycologists, for me myself the iding I've done has only really required me to look at cap, stem and spore print. As for what these are, I've been waiting for these specimens to fruit again, I walk past nearly every day but haven't seen anymore I'll be sure to post up a picture when they do. There was HEAPS there but now they are just rotten remains.

    Suspected Marasmius oreades

I'm using this wet weather to get better at IDing various types of fungi. Today I was walking and seen a huge amount of what I believe is Marasmius Oreades. I learned about this mushroom last season and know that it grows around here. There's no way I'm putting these anywhere near my mouth without knowing what they are though, not that I'll be eating these ones but I'd love to try get some myc growing from them. Cap: Dark creamy, almost looks like a P. Cubensis from the top. Gills: Same colour as cap although a little lighter. Spore Print: White. Growing on: Mulch. Thank you my fellow mycologists!

Meet up: Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle

Yeah I'm not sure if I could make 5/6 because one of my best mates is turning 21, then again I might be able to convince him without too much arm bending that a 2 day doof would be a great 21st celebration. Is there a website or something that's got the information about the doof colhawk?

Conroy answers 3 "our say" questions on drug policy

I wish this was asked after Julia was ousted. Perhaps Kevin will be more open minded, who knows. Then again he's had his run before and that wasn't something he talked about but second time around could be different perhaps?

    Acacia I.D

The leaves look too bulbish(?) to be a longifolia imo. It could be a A. Melanoxylon, according to this it flowers in more northern climates in Winter-Spring and in southern climates in Spring-Summer but is known to flower at different types of the year in certain climates. Not an acacia ID king by any standard though so wait for someone more knowledgeable to drop in and confirm. From memory the melanoxylons around my area have that red stem bark that you're referring to as well.

    PRISM Planet

I've been wanting to hear some sort of response from our representatives, it's scary how silent they are on the matter. I'm sure we would have received something more of a response if not for the fact that the parties are striving to get re-elected. Thanks for sharing Qualia!

    RPG games

I absolutely loved Skyrim, I still play it every now and then but my studies were effected by my profession as a full time dovakin so now I play it much less. I went through a WoW phase, I didn't find it as addictive as some and I definitely miss late night dungeons and ganking noobs on the crossroads and stuff. Morrowind was another favourite. I'm considering The Elder Scrolls Online when it comes out but part of me thinks I'll get real addicted to it so I probably shouldn't.
  17. I was thinking of writing some letters to my local members after the oursay.org question had been posted in the senate and an answer received. With the ban being in place for 120 days we've got 120 to make a difference, or at least try. I'm sure if everyone who voted in that campaign and a few more wrote letters, maybe even called them, they'd listen to us more. By the way, anyone voting for the 21st century Australia party keep in mind that a friend of mine emailed them asking for their stance on drug law reform and called their head office. No answer was received on email and she was told that the person she originally emailed gets back to you really quick. So I suppose that's their stance, silence just like all the other excuses for parties. I have to admit I thought that a few of their policies were actually good but now with that I have no idea who to vote for. We need some sort of crypto-voting system like akin to bitcoin so that people can vote on the issues and thus politicians are made for the most part redudtant, they certainly don't have much power as much as just being a spokesperson for the people as was originally intended.

    natural pest control recipes?

I've heard Nicotiana Rustica is a very potent deterrant for pests, making a spray from the juices of the plant would be one way to apply it I suppose. I'd definitely wash it if it's food products that you apply them too. It's also grown next to plants that the gardener doesn't want to be attacked, that way there's no nicotine getting put onto your plants. Regarding your slug problem bury an open beer bottle (with beer inside) so that only a bit is poking out from the surface. Slugs are attracted to the beer and end up drowning themselves.

Supreme Court stops gene patents :)

Yeah I dont think their patents are invalidated, nor should they because of the reason you mentioned. What I was talking about was more the courts clamping down on gmo rather than not allowing them to patent them (labeling any product with any sort of gmo involved in its production etc, let the consumers make informed choices of what they eat). They can patent those deathly things all they want, doesn't mean they can then go and deny us of anything other than their gmo nonsense.

Supreme Court stops gene patents :)

Has the world swallowed a sanity pill or something? I gotta be honest I'm impressed a few things I've seen going on lately. Now we just need the courts to be sane when it comes to Monsanto and real progress will have been made. Thanks for sharing

    Suspected Marasmius oreades

Thanks obtuse. Now that you mention it the gills of the m. oreades I found last year were well spaced and the cap was definitely not as smooth as this one. I'll get a picture of the stem for you when I get home. Thanks for the advice mate!

    Anyone studying AND working full-time?

I can't say I know anyone who works and studies full time. I've done a couple of weeks here and there where I've worked 38 hour weeks + uni and I definitely wouldn't recommend it. My studies were most definitely effected and now I refuse to do more than 16 hours a week which gives me more than enough income and doesn't completely abolish my studies.

    Naturopathic Degrees/Coures

I'm really interested in perhaps doing a naturopathic degree after I've completed my engineering degree (I know, quite a change ) I was just wondering if there are any SABers out there who are qualified naturopaths or are undertaking an naturopathic degree and which course they'd recommend doing. Unfortunately as far as I can tell my current uni doesn't offer one. I was looking at Southern Cross University up in Lismore which would be pretty cool, they even have their own ethnobotany garden which I thought was smick. Anyway any advice would be much appreciated!

    Naturopathic Degrees/Coures

I've still got 2 years to go with my engineering degree so I'd get there on your last year. It's a shame there's no traditional amazonian medicine degree. I just finished reading the course outline and it looks like the degree is more interesting than the SCU one. At least I've got 2 years to decide!
