Wanted - Diplopterys cabrerana seed. (chaliponga)
saguaro replied to space cadet swami's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
I know of someone on another forum who was selling chaliponga seeds and I almost bought some off him 'til I discovered he lived in peru. I doubt they would have ever gotten through customs. edit: coincidentally I think I just found him again through a post on this forum, going by the username 'shamanic plants' -

My ~3.5 cm lophophora is a little wrinkled and sagging a bit on one side, and is soft the the touch all around. I watered it about 3 days ago, and don't water it too often, maybe once a month or so. I am scared that I made it rot, what should I do? I don't have access to a camera at the momemtn so I can't take any photos. There is no obvious sign of rot such as discolouration etc, it is just a bit sagged, wrinkled and soft.
-
I removed it from soil, dried soil, and replanted it to be sure. I took some photos of the bare roots to see if there is any rot: I'm sorry if the image comes out huge, I'm having trouble trying to figure image posting out. I'm beginning to think that I was just overly worried it was rotting when in reality it's just doing its thing and shrinking and softening for winter.

the roots are fine, this was the last watering it was going to get until it starts heating up and it is still 20 degrees and over where i lve.

great advice trucha! I think it is more likely they will die of pampering - they are my babies! cheers

thanks for the responses. I have about 20 seedlings that are half a year old, each just under a cm in diameter. I also have one large approx 4 year old one, that is almost 4cm in diameter. Night temperature in winter is lowest 8 degrees celsius. However, they are on my windowsill and still get 4 hours of direct sunlight in the morning get indirect sunlight day. around what month should I stop giving it water and when shall i start watering constantly again? this is the first year I've grown lophophora.

hey, I have had success germinating them without ever having to soak them. all I did was lay them on moist seed raising mix and kept the environment in the propagator warm and very humid.
