    Brisbane meet, Saturday August 25th

Like suggested by Jox, a GC meet would probably bring a few more out of the wood work from Nrthn NSW too. Ill def be making the next brisi meet, and any meets DarkSpark is at, consider me there too. Sorry bigred I didnt get back to your messages. Thank you for the invite though. Your kindness did not go unnoticed. Sounds like you all had an awsome time, and good to see some newish members were there too.
  2. The paper is done. can be downloaded in this thread Photoblastism of Peyote. or directly from this link Photoblastism of Peyote Thanks for the input ladies and gentlemen.
  3. Ahoy fellow entheo and cati lovers. I have an open ended TAFE research piece, and have decided to test the photoblasticity of lophophora williamsii... Heres the plan Ive got 3 humidi chambers.... Plan to put 6 little 80mm pots in each with 5 seeds in each. (30 seeds total per chamber, 90 seeds total) Thanks heaps myco for the seeds, you(and the forum) get a mention in the aknowledgements of the paper. -1 chamber will be subjected to total permananet darkness and only opened once daily quickly to record temp and humidty and check germination numbers.... -1 chamber is to be subjected to a 48watt Nelson (UShape) 5000k CFL for x hours a day at height of nCm above the chamber and yCM above the top of the substrate -1 chamber is to be subjected to a 48watt Nelson (UShape) 3500k CFL for x hours a day at height of nCm above the chamber and yCM above the top of the substrate Question is what height should i have this intensity of lighting from the seeds (n and y), and should i put shadecloth over the two lit ones? What cycle for germinating for the 2 i will be lighting? ie 24/0, 18/6 or 12/12? Should i run the light cycle(for the 2 lit chambers) through nighttime, to keep the total average temps up (avoid 14degree nights) What substrate should i use to germinate? (was thinking just 40%searles premium cacti and suc, 15%searles premium potting,30% crushed perlite, 15% propagating sand) Should I sterlise(oven cook) my substrate to decontam before sowing? (i never usually do, have some green algae sometimes appear, but has never really seemed that big of a deal?) Should I Drench containers/substrate 2 days before putting in humidy chamber and sowing? Is it too cold atm to sow? 2 of them will be lit by quite powerful (purposely chosen for cold weather) CFLS...should i do this inside my room instead of outside at my bar? (hard to do in my room and completly seal light so i can still sleep at night) Temp and humidity to be recorded once a day for all 3 chambers, as well as germinations checked and mapped for each chamber daily also. Planning to do for 31 day(1 month), which is about accepted time for seed to pop? General thoughts on the whole plan fellow cacti head?, and anything can do to help improve this research, and keep any possible factors as constant as possible? Be as critical as possible please....i want this paper to be as legitmate as possible, regardless of the already known information on the light sensity of germinating cacti, particulary Lophophora williamsii Thanks heaps 2Deep

    three trees looking for ID's...

No1 is A. longifolia if i had to guess.... do you live in an area where A.disparima or A.concurrens grow naturally? leaf structure looks similar to these 2 as well but not sure how they bloom.

    Datura metel var fastuosa

datura metel fastuosa and chlorantha(yellow) are both self-fertile. As PH said, are like brugs and very fert hungry. Also EXTREMLY susceptible to spider mites (and are much harder to spot than on brugs, and dont show the typical 'webbing' of mite infestations until its too late I will be putting several Daturas down this coming season, and have been overwintering my brugs like crazy, and have my first ever fruit forming on my Candida X Flora Penna. They are self sterile, so considering only my sacred sunset was out at the same time, that must be the daddy. Im hoping for some double throated sunset look alikes :D Just discovered a whitefly infestation in them tonight, so tomrorow morning will see the neem, detergent water, garlic and ghost peppers, and boiled N. rusticia and sticky pads come out. No holding back against these little bastards! As Mr Caapi said...brug hang...datura throw towards the sky, Some datura porn in the meantime!

The 'Chemputer' that could print out any drug

they are already using machines to etch writing into things atom by atom, and are building things atoms by atom. Theoretically, If you had the right blue print or started with the right map, you could build the 4 simple proteins that comprise DNA, and the other 2 for RNA (i think i recall it uses 2 of the same ones DNA does). Mix in the 'learning-algorithms' of backward-propagated neural-network derived algorithms that can write themselves, and the possibilities from there start to get all kinds of Sci-fi and shit! Terminator Judgment Day Anyone! Great find whitewind

Man goes to near-space, checks out view, and jumps

Moral of the story is we should all go skydiving! If you've never done it, then i highly recommend it ASAP. The rush you will attain is better than any substance or meditation could ever give you. for the record, it is quite possible, for a cat through being social and hanging around marijuana users, to become addicted and "want" the substance, and actively seek it. Not my cat though....just cat mint seven hills giant for her.

    Desert cacti and rain.

I do as dionysus does, and have them under my back patio, lining the walls under the eaves. They get a few hours of filtered light a day, and all my grafts and seedlings are still growing away, and my fussy ones arent dying, so thats always good. If there is lots of sunshine, and im home, and know im going to be back in the arvo, or am not going anywhere, then they get dumped out in the sun for the day, and might even get a light spray in the top(not bottom fed takes too long to dry) carefully around the cacti(i never wet the cacti themselves, but have noticed on the frosty mornings, my Mam. bocasana's holding water in their cute fuzz of fur). No miracle grow or seasol for them over winter for me. Trichos round the side of my house and bigger ones get watered once every 3-5 days still, as they are still under cover too.

Messing around with grafts a few photos

Great work stillman...their all stunning but i personally love the Albino Psycho0 and astro. I dont see too many astros on bigger stock

    Fruit/Seed separation Teks

I do Auxin. I pollinated a Cereus peruvianus monstrose recently, and as i was eating the fruit, i was gathering up masses of seeds in my forming spit wad... got 75mmx75mm with searles cacti and suc mix, with a 2mm layer of prop sand on top, spat gooey seed filled mix in. 3 days later there were hundreds of CPM babies. Must have been close to 100% germination rate as well. Got to admit, got some green algae forming within 3 weeks of being in a humidy chamber, but just did a repot recently, and they are all loving life!

    WTS/T Cereus monstrose

awsome thanks heaps man.... Have a look at this thread of mine a while ago. Shows Mine(mummy) and Moses(daddy) different growth habits. http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=31014&hl=&fromsearch=1

    WTS/T Cereus monstrose

Check your genetics didnt all come from this one woman first....dont know bout CHM, but CPM is self sterlile (ie same gentics will not cross onto each other)....You would be surprised how many cacti all come from the one Plant. I sourced CPM from 5 different people in SE QLD, and it was all the same lol (mind you i did only travel over 3 suburbs to get it) before moses finally sent me up pollen from SA which worked.

    The Sowing Out Thread

If the T.mixed mixed came from DooDabides, keep a look out in there for the odd little Lopha will showing its self ;) lol

    Loph red rot

dont worry about if the actual button is wet....is there any moisture in the substrate its in? if your in SE QLD(or just south of the border for legality), then the temps are dropping sub 10degC atm at night, with little good hard sunshine through the day as well, then I would keep it bone dry....My Mexican tap-roots haven't had a water for over 5 weeks now and they are all under cover) EDIT: I dont get the extreme over-wintering growth some of you get, but I rarely take losses.... Re-affirmed my thoughts on less is best the hard way recently with a Coprypantha longicornis.

    Masters Cacti

New massive hardware chain Psylo going head to head with bunnings. Home Depot in america(3rd biggest company) teamed with woolworths (wesfarmers own coles and bunnings) to open Masters.

Grafting or Rooting: a question or two

ummm now i cant help you here on the getting too big part, but i have seen 3inch+ buttons on pencil thick pere... Im going to leave my first one on there until it falls off naturally (or i see splitting in the connection of the graft or can see obviously detrimental leaning of the scion)

    WTS/T Cereus monstrose

sexy cuts bro! Would u be interested in trading for a potted and well rooted example of the same size but in Cereus peruvianus Monstrose? The pics along with the confirmed ID make me think the pollen Moses sent me of a 'knobbly' CPM from SA to pollinate my wax CPM may possibly have been hildmannianus? EDIT: i walked away from this thread without actually posting, by the time i did, i saw '1 new reply posted', and speak of the devil , its the man Moses himself chasing down more CxM genetics! lol

What did you do to your cacti today?

Beautiful Got! You planning on putting some of those offsets of the Aztekium, Copiapoa and Turbinicarpus on pere? would love to buy a few baby grafts of the Aztekium and Turbini once youve amassed a few.
  25. Maybe the Mayans were right and on Dec 23rd this year, Mr. Higgs fires up his Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and he, and the rest of the world gets a (very brief) first hand view of this elusive Bosun particle. The particle isnt meant to oscillate at all? have we ever had a single bosun isolated in our universe before(or this particular bosun that isnt meant to oscillate anyway)? Wasnt there talk Mr Higgs LHC machine could theoretically create a black hole, but the quelled all the publics fears by saying it would only exist for some stupid figure of a second because it would eat itself out before it could grow larger than a marble or something? Exciting either way you look at it
