New Member 21 years growing Cacti

lophophile once you get grafting lophs, youll never look back...i too grew all lophs on their own ""legs" for the first 2 years of my gardening addiction, and have recently discovered the simplisicity of and drastic benifits of grafting loph seedlings onto pereskopsis....BOOM growth! Welcome by the way and i can fully appreciate your desire to immerse yourself amongst like minded people who actually like, live, love, and learn all about cacti! I
  2. Such a shame this thread had to degenerate to this.... Such a beautiful specimen, and i can understand why EG was asking about it. Whisperz you are hands down one of the best cheapest loph movers around, but none of that means anything if you are rude and not a pleasure to deal with. EG was simply asking more about it, as im sure we are all interested in this almost columar version of jourdiana. It looks like that boobie plant. Monstrose Myrtillocactus geometrizans, but def looks like loph view from above and the pups. Anyone got more on columar lophos?

    selective herbicides seeking advice

ps buffalo is the thick bladed stuff, and couch is thin bladed. Most weed killers are broadleaf poisons, and hence will kill buffalo and other thick bladed turfs/lawns/grasses/weeds. Round up is glysophate (usually at a concentration of 360g/L) and diluted with 20ml for every litre i beleive. A bit of olive oil (nice one) or evil detergent or diesal as a surfactant will get the bind times down, if you think its going to rain, within 6 hours of application. The more humid it is the quicker it is absorbed ie real humid day will be right if it rains after 4-5 hours, but in winter with >50% , then the full 6 hours would be needed b4 rain (or reaaply) or add the surfactant. Zahsone...what is it with us SE QLD'ers and knowing our turf? Thunderideal...i worked in the nursery at bunnings and the pesticides and fertiliser aisles for 4 years, so i suppose you could call me something close to a greenkeeper also urine killing weeds? i pee on some of my brugs, and it just seems to make everything BOOM growth....my brugs....and the new weeds that pop up. EDIT: also Kadakuda, this is exactly how i kill off my grasses that pop up in amongst my little nursery...900mm x 3m lengths of 90% black shade for a couple of weeks at a time rotated around...not mention its bliss on my feet to walk on.. and yes most weeds metabolise very quickly, and thus why us humans felt the need to call them weeds, so i see how burning them, and then flushing said nitrogen substance from surrounding plants could work...interesting

    Help with grow lights

Hey Ritalin i have a fair amount fo knowledge with CFLS, and worked at bunnings for over 4 years, and can tell you they sell EVERYTHING you need. purchase yourself a couple of cheap (15amp(heavy duty boat/worksite) preferably and not 10amp(ordinary house) extension cords to chop up. 2 x 5700k (spectrum good for veg growth) 48 watt strait tube Nelson CFL (straight tubes are way better than those energy saving sprial CFLS) (about $19 each and more realistically closer to 96watt output (not sure of lumens on these but i know its plenty, and 2 of these would produce over the 15k recommended on the canopy of the growth? 2 times same lights, but in 2700k or 3500k(they come in one of those sizes) for flowering/fruiting/budding, still 48 watt too. These lights are great as they have their own ballast built in to them (why they have a 'big bum'), and dont priduce to much heat. you can get them in bayonet or screw fitting, just get them all in the same fitting, and i prefer bayonet, as you can then just also buy 2 cheap bayonet light fittings, and use the extension cord to wire them in series (or parrallel if you know your wiring) (plenty of youtube demos) Rip out 2 x old pc fans, and wire them to anywhere from 4.9v - 9volt phone charger (cut off end, split the two wires and attach em to each of the wires of the fans. (have one pushing air into the grow box, and one pulling it out) or alternativly go down to local hydro shop and purchase a small powerfull brushless desktop mini fan and put that in there for colling and circulation, but doesnt provide ventilation (need in/out fan for that) Cheap to set up and run Hope it helps

Please read the first post guys...do not post in here unless you are taking an offer an reposting an offer, or adding to an offer to get the ball rolling again a simple thanks and then next line items your offering surrounded by VVV VVV Entheo you receive all that is listed not just one (and one before that as it was additional i beleive)..... but good work for following the general structure of this thread. IOU's are not acceptable (general accepted turn around on seeds/plants is 1-4 weeks) can you edit your post please and clarify what species your seeds are ie roma tomatoes is good, the rest are too vague. I would love to claim (for the chillis in particular) but want to know what species they are first to make sure i dont already have Sorry for my bitch and gripe...just wanna see more free stuff getting handed out amongst the community again. and a clear, unpolluted and well structured thread will ensure that continues to happen.

Should I be worried about my Trich?

Yeah we get heaps of that rot here in QE QLD (Gold Coast), and like stated especially on trichos and more specifically as stated all my tbs at one point have had it. they only get it in summer here (when im watering em), i beleive it is a combination of too regular watering, mixed with high humidity/temps (i assume dry arid hot heat wouldnt be as bad) I grafted a TBM to TIM (Trich Bridgessi), which i stupidly put in a fish tank and forgot about for like 10 days. When i finally remembed about it, all 4 sides of the scion had developed a bad case of the black rot. ( i know you shouldnt give tricho grafts humitdy, but considering i just jammed it on and pushed it down like a pereskopsis graft, and it took, i was quite happy). As soon as i took it out of the tank, the rot stopped progressing, and 3 weeks later the rot has almost grown out of the penis, and is growing along a lot healthier and faster nwo than all my other penisis. I never cut it out. Too lazy to sulphur the wound, and beleive you me if you dont sulphur the wound, you will just be choppin at it until your left with either a very ugly cactus or a stump only.

    Pereskiopsis

I beleive it would be considered 'rareish' amongst the general community as it is nothing special by itself, but when it comes to nurseries specialising in cacti, or people who love their cacti, then it would be considered as common as mud, as it grows quite quickly, and is a necessity to have a patch for every cacti warrior, as it is i think/beleive the best stock for very young seedlings from the button cacti family, as well as others. Also accepts many species aswell. 2nd best acceptor-stock i think behind geo or myrtillo?

How do you train certian vines to grow horizontal

lol not exactly horizontal growth, but i trained mine up 2 meters of 2 meter wide lattice back and forth, and once it made it to the top, i just let it spill back out over my shade cloth, and it now only creeps horizontally across this, as it tries togrow upwards, has nothing to grow it vertically, and so falls back onto the shade, grows as a horizontal, and sends more out in an attempt to get ''higher', and the process starts again. Any one know if 'thin' stem still contains the harmas? I will be re-inforcing this shade cloth in the near fututre, as it is bowing under the load from the Agreiya, as well as the sprawling caapi now.

    WTB Ervatamia orientalis

Is this Tabernathemontana orientalis your talking about tipz? or something else? Edit: It must be. I found it (Syn ervatamia orientalis). Aussie Iodine Bush. I believe it has a bunch of other nasties in it that make its use as an iboga substitute impractical / dangerous. Any members have any experience with this plant? the growing of or using? I have one of these Tipz....its like 3+ years old and still only like 40cm tall with like 15 leafs. Would probably go a lot better in the wild. If i ever decide to harvest ill let you know straight away.
