Yeah I've noticed there are a few doofs down that way on oztrance... maybe it'd be worth the 9 hour drive haha! I remember for a while there though, there was almost something on every weekend up this way, then everything just seemed to quiet down.

That should not be There (crap you find in potting mix )
fydesvindico replied to Bigred's topic in Ethnobotany
Haha I actually found a half-shredded pack of ciggies in a bag of brunnings potting mix recently.. Still had a few ciggies intact too haha.. I've also found pieces of scrap metal in a few bags of premium potting mix.. Found a gardening glove once too.. Good times -
At the moment I've got a few chilli plants that are getting smashed by aphids. I didn't notice until today, but it looks like it's a full blown infestation to the extend of a few winged aphids jumping ship to near plants. There is a ton of ladybug larva all over the plants also, which so far look like they're making quite a good meal of the pests. so, my question is... should I leave it up to nature to fight the problem or should I get in there and drown them out with some neem/ other preventative measure? Does anyone know if neem will affect the ladybug larva, and what do you think the chances are of them actually hanging around to finish off the problem once they've matured to "ladybugs"? Cheers for your help fydes

Natural Pesticides
fydesvindico replied to FickFackMD's topic in Sustainable Technologies & Ethical Living
Tea tree and neem oil spray, tulsi and Spilanthes tea extract as a spray, marigold, chamomile and geranium plants strategically located around the garden. Should be all you need to keep your garden pest free. Naturally. -
Keen as if I made it in time :-)

WTB/T - P. Viridis/nexus & b.caapi clones/ cuttings
fydesvindico posted a topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
Hey guys, As the title states; looking to buy or trade for mostly P. virids, and/or Nexus plants/ cuttings/ leaf material. Also interested in various caapi clones... and well pretty much anything else interesting you may have hangin around (HBWR seed, Khat cuts/ plants, various acaia seed etc. and anything else that may be of interest) Don't have much to trade at the moment as am just staring fresh... again! I have been lucky enough to have had some of my old plants returned to me from an old friend before I left Aus for NZ a few years ago, of which i'm willing to trade. I've got a few spare cuts (and rooted cuttings within the coming weeks) of: B. caapi (yellow) P. carthagenensis T. bridgesii T. scopulicola also.. a few seed grown T. peruvianus seedlings (3 y.o) chili seeds, (naga viper, bhut jolokia) heimia salicifolia cuts algeria nervosa seeds P. cubensis prints (for microscopy purposes only) and... cash. Lettuce know if you've got anything your willing to trade/ sell. will post pics later if required :-) cheers, fydes- 1 reply

When I was in NZ I could easily see people living almost completely for free! There are fruit trees everywhere! Peaches and nectarines just growing on the sides of roads, grapes everywhere. You can go looking for oysters and muscles on most beaches/ inlets. Pippies on almost every beach/ inlet.. Can almost always catch a fish if you shuck your line out (good sized fish too) ...You've got kiwi fruit fields all over the place (also good for p. Sub sight seeing) almost everyone has lemons in the front yard etc.. So good.

When I was a lot younger and worked at Coles.. every Wednesday night around closing a few family's used to go through our produce bins and come away with some awesome stuff! Even though most of the fruit and veggies have already been sitting in Coles' cold room for months before they're put onto the floor, most of the stuff they throw away is fine! These family's were walking away with a few garbage bags each! Of good stuff! For free. Anything from cabbages and lettuce that just need a few extra of the outa leaves pulled off, apples and oranges that seem to have nothing wrong with them.. Bags of potatoes that may only just be starting to go a little green, pumpkins and so on! I wouldn't knock dumpster diving at all! I've seen what people can come away with!
