I have a rat in my garden, it's been living harmoniously with my cacti on the roof, however, it started to do some damage. This A. fissuratus had 3 fruits popping from the to The rest are Lophophora

So I wrote his long ass topic but my machine froze before I pressed "post", so I'll retype this way shorter. I grafted 4 clones twice, once to a "big" rootstock (~40-50 cm) and the other to a shorter stock (~10-20 cm). The three clones are: eileen, a peruvianus, an open-pollinated huanucoensis, and Eulychnia castanea. The rootstock is Stenocereus (I might have 2 different species, I don't know). Open-pollinated huanucoensis seedling: On a short stock (the scion was a midpiece of the seedling) On a big stock (the tip of the seedling) eileen (both grafts were tips) On a short stock On a big stock Peruvianus (this one http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41662) On a short stock (tip graft) On a big stock (midpiece cut in half) Eulychnia castanea On a short stock On a big stock As seen in the pics, scions of the same clone on bigger rootstock display more mature characteristics, in rib and areol formation, spine thickness and density than those that are grafted on shorter rootstock. With minor changes this could've been a scientific experiment, but it all happened by pure chance. That's why there are a lot of variables that I didn't stabilize. Anyway, this could be preliminary evidence that rootstock size does really matter.

Thank you, I don't have any Lophophoras grafted to different sized rootstock of the same species, so I have no data. I'll try to do it this coming season ;) I've only made few grafts on trichocereus stock, but I find Trichocereus, myrtillocactus inferior to Stenocereus. But then again, I've only used short rootstocks of these species, so maybe that's why I had inferior results ;) Zelly that's a beautiful crest :0 Personally, I think alignment makes a difference, but I believe (observational theory) that the amount of pressure that is applied on during grafting also makes a big difference. So both of them will make the difference. I wouldn't know about that at all, since I plant all the cuttings I take 3-7 days (in the active season) after I cut them. And I water them with the same schedule as my rooted plants. In the winter, I just stick the cuttings in soil after they scab and don't water them. I start watering when it's warm enough and they grow just fine. So I never know when cuttings have grown roots or not ;) Hopefully someone with experience can answer your question ;)

I've known this guy through his generosity. A year ago I asked this guy if he has a huanucoensis cutting. He said yes and before he sent it, he asked me if there's something else on my wish list, as he knows that where I live there are no Trichocereus available. I've always wanted a PC cutting (I find it very attractive). He sent me a cutting of each. However, both of them weighted 3.something kg. And what was really a bummer is that at that time, the government here started applying the laws that were "dormant" for as long as I know. The cuttings got confiscated and I tried my best to get them out. I even payed bribes every other day to get into a restricted area in the airport to try to convince the official that was responsible for not letting the package pass. Long story short, after a month trying to get it out. I even got a copy of the law that says I can have the package since it contains less than 10 cuttings the official told me that whatever I do, it will get destroyed, he won't even let me extend it back. I got really mad Before I left his office I told him that I'll have these cacti, maybe not these but the same genetics either way. So last month a friend went to the states and I contacted this generous guy. He sent my friend a big fat PC with a flower bud and 3 1 year old open pollinated huanucoensis seedlings. I picked them up a few days ago. I found the flower bud fell off cuz of the trip but another one is forming and it seems like 3 more areols are showing some fuzz. I usually don't write long posts but I'm really amazed with such generosity. Thank you Zelly. I really appreciate all what you done so I can get these.

That makes me the pimp ;) Thanks sagi, I already cut off 5 decent cuttings and gifted them to friends. I'm kind of doubting that the powerful feeding of the Stenocereus rootstock is making all the pups grow in their normal monstrose form and non is spiral.

Is this a Pachanoi?

Check this thread out if you haven't ......it's about Kohres seeds http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=38636 -
I wouldn't do it.........but if you do, please update this thread.

This is one of the seedlings that has a fat girth for its size. A year ago or so, I sent a SABer friend the tip. I transplanted 2 nights ago. I buried more that half of it beneath the soil, cuz most of my mature trichocereus that I've grown from seeds are either leaning or tipping over. In order not to lose track of it , I've named it "unknown".

I would like others who bought seeds from Koehres to share their specimens as well, so others would expect what they'll grow when getting seeds from Koehres All in all, I'm pleased with dealing with this company T. pachanoi

This is a short spined one, that I got from nitrogen. It looks so beautiful during fall, winter and spring; however, it always looks dehydrated and beat up during summer. I guess it still can't handle the summer sun.

I'm new to PC, but in only half a season it grew 38 cm (but lost more than half of its girth), which exceeds the growth of my 2 lumberjackus' growth (one of which is grafted)

Wow, thought I'd check this thread and I totally forgot how my roof looked like. It's amazing how growing cacti from seeds can fill up a big space. Big thanks to all those who gifted me with their crosses. It couldn't have happened without you guys. Got to thank these cacti too for making me part of legendary communities like SAB and the Nook. Edit- I totally forgot that I already posted updates back in September :D

The same 2 grafts of the open-pollinated huanucoensis seedling. It really amazes me how these 2 grafts from the same seedling are growing to looks so different. The primary difference between 2 grafts is, the length of the rootstock and the position in the sun. The tip graft is on a bigger rootstock and gets more sun. The midsection graft, is on a smaller rootstock. And gets Less sun relatively speaking.

This one is becoming one of my favorites I think it looks like a T. peruvianus.

So this Trichocereus seedling is from my 1st batch I've ever sown. It was in February 2005. I've purchased the seeds from Doug & Vivi Rowland from the UK. Here's the original thread on the Nook http://www.thenook.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=30745&page=2 They kept growing till November 2005, then I neglected and all of them died or so I thought. I threw the "dead" seedlings in my adult pachanois soil mix as a kind of compost. In October 2009 as was turning the soil of one my pachanoi, I've found the seedling buried but still alive and has a big root. I planted it and watered and fertilized it but it hasn't grown that much, so I decided to graft it this season, to give it a push. 2 weeks ago I made 2 grafts, the tip and the middle part was grafted sideway. The tip has started growing

Hey EG I had surgery on my left leg and I still can't walk, so it's been almost 2months now that I haven't seen my collection. Fortunately it's winter and it rained twice, so the cacti had some water to drink, so I'm hoping they weren't negatively affected. I'll post pictures once I get the chance ;)
