  1. I have a range of tricho cacti and have been growing and collecting for about 7 years. In all that time, i've not had a single flower. :(

Is there anything I can do to encourage flowering? Sure, pups are good but the flowers are really something.

FWIW, my soil is quite clay-rich.

  2. lol. fingered: to accuse someone of something or to point blame.

It was a split-second decision and in the heat of the moment I decided that the cop was actually giving me a sort of alibi. If i had said I hadn't associated with drug users, or continued to say nothing (or even demanded a lawyer) then they could have made life, or the evening at least, a lot more difficult. It's a tough call, and not easy when you're surrounded by LE.

  3. A sniffer dog in a local pub fingered (pawed?) me and I was taken somewhere private to be searched. They found nothing and I wasn't carrying anything but, whilst I tried to say nothing, I was 'encouraged' by one of the officers to suggest that 'I had been at a drug user friends place that afternoon'. He made it quite clear that this would be the best option so eventually I complied.

All I could think about that night was coming to find my house crawling with police.

  4. Oh. :(

Well the soil is very clay dominant. But the house is full of cracks long before I planted these (it's on piers btw).

I had in fact hoped that they'd actually provide some stability to the front of the house. I've had the feeling that ever since we removed a large tree from the front lawn, a little over ten years ago now, the lawn (and house) have been slowly creeping towards the road.

I'd better make it a job to remove them this summer. Do they grow much bigger?

  5. So I planted these Acacia Maidenii (and a couple of Obtisufolia) I grew from seed and they've done nicely and provided some good privacy. Should I be concerned however about how close they are to the house/foundations as they grow older?

They're really prospering and require constant pruning (for which I could always use a hand in disposing of the cuttings).

  6. ...youd be hard pressed to get directions to a morel patch out of anyone thats is in the know.

I would never be so presumptous to even ask.

We've had a pretty dry winter up here - might be difficult then. But it would be interesting to know how far north they grow.

  7. I'm really intrigued by these fungi - and dying to try them (along with truffles some day). thats a great 4th photo with all the morels sticking up out of the ground.

How long do you think they'll fruit for PD? ie. do we very short and precise season we have here in Oz - or has all the rain you've had in Vic been the catalyst for this? Are they worth looking for in Sydney?

Lastly, i'd be prepared to send you some money (even as much as $50 kilo) if you think they'd survive express posting.

  8. they 'look' delicious - although i've never been lucky enough to try them aside from some dried mixed mushrooms I bought once (of which there was a total of one morel in the packet).

did the bush fires have enything to do with their prevalence?

is there only one species here in australia? Elata?

  9. sure - uv light might break down some of the actives - but only on the exterior cells - it should be negligible.

if you don't want to spend the money on a dehydrator or don't want to build a simple one with damp-rid, just chuck them in the oven on a very low heat (< 100C) until crispy.
