  4. Hey all. I have just chopped a heap of Pere that had grown up into my lights. As I have an excess of them at the moment I am offering them up here. So up for grabs are 3 lots of 10 Pere tip cuttings ( some are a bit red ) free to the first 3 people to post in this thread and PM me there addresses. They are packed and ready to be sent tomorrow. All I ask is that you keep this great communities spirit going by helping other people out in the future if and when you are able too. With how easy these are to propagate there should never be a shortage if every one keeps at least a couple of mother plants going and sharing the excess with the community. Australian members only Cheers Got

    Variegated Lophophora ?

I didn't vote as I think the second one could have some variegation but then it also has that same weirdness going on like the others. I think time is the only thing that is going to tell you for sure. Cheers Got

I use cactus as a plural

King Caractacus’s caucus was a consortium of cactaphiles conceived to catch Cactus’s cactuses catching Cactus. Cactus’s cacti continued to catch Cactus while the Caractacus caucus convened. Cactus, Cactophile and Cactipod clearly confused the Caractacus caucus considering the correct considerations for cacti , cactus and cactuses . Clever Cactus convinced the Caractacus caucus to compromise and to consider cacti on its own. Cheers Got

I use cactus as a plural

I am with you on this PH. Whenever there is a discussion about the english language or the correct use of words in their correct context all I seem to hear is people peoples bla bla bla bla bla bla ....................the sky is nice and blue wonder if any more seedlings will be up when I get home............... bla bla bla bla................................................... I suppose this might be the reason I failed year 10 english at school. The thing that has improved my english the most is writing posts on here and you know that what i have written here over the years is probably the most I have ever written through my whole life. Definitely the most words that I have ever typed. Cheers Got

    Re rooting snapped peres stock?

Have never used the gel. I have used powdered hormone for hardwood ( just what I had ) on every pere cutting I have propagated. I have managed to rot about 5 pere at soil level one was a new cutting the others were due to over watering ( left the pots sitting in water ). I haven't yet tried burying the stock on a graft but the guy that I linked to is a very experienced grower and has some interesting techniques. Stocks that I have had problems with rotting stock and scion have been Hylocereus. But they were not buried stock just normal grafts. Cheers Got

    Re rooting snapped peres stock?

I have never calloused a pere cutting. After looking at you pic a bit closer you might want to remove the pup of the side and do what this guy does in this link http://forum.auscactiforum.net/t1664-grafting-degrafting-of-cacti-in-2013-2014 as the pere you have left is quite short. You could then graft the pup onto a Trich stock or try and root it. Cheers Got
  12. Most of the cakes are chocolate mud cakes with chocolate ganash covering on the outside and in between the cakes. They are then covered with fondant. Some are also white chocolate mud cakes with white chocolate ganash. She has also started doing a caramel chocolate ganash. All of the ganash and the cakes are made with good quality dark chocolate and the cakes have a hint of coffee as well. Drooling yet Just about every thing on and in the cakes is edible. The only things in the cakes above that are not edible are the candles , the sticks for the signs and potato heads and the flamingo has a stainless steel frame inside of it. For example the bottom cake the only things that you cant eat is the cake stand/board the bling on the shoe and the pieces on the side have wire in them The wine bottle cake is totally edible. The box and the ruffled material is fondant. The packing in the box is white chocolate and the rest is cake and fondant. I was going to post a pic of the frame that we made for the flamingo but I don't seem to be able to upload it at the moment. I have past on your comments to Jo and she says thanks and you are all very kind. Cheers Got

    Re rooting snapped peres stock?

Shouldn't have any problems. Re cut the end so you have a clean cut , dip in rooting hormone and plant in potting mix. I wouldn't plant it to deep as you will wont some of the pere still out of the mix. Cheers Got

I use cactus as a plural

I use cacti more than I use cactus manly because if it feels right I say it / write it that way. Normally cacti = multiple. I wouldn't take much notice of me though as I don't think I am able to pronounce the names of any of my cacti correctly as most I have never heard anyone say. They have always been written and then it comes down to me saying in my head how I think it is pronounced which tends to be way off as I get some very strange looks from people when I start talking about my collection. I am certainly not multilingual I cant even do single lingual proper. Cheers Got

    For Sale Cacti

I can not believe no one has snapped this up. Check out the prices on Ebay for the common Hamiltons ones. I paid a lot more than this for mine and I am a still a happy camper. Cheers Got
  16. Ever thought about growing Frangipani from seed? I put down some seeds in I think March / April. I started them in 50mm tubes in a mini green house and the potted them up a few moths ago into 85mm square pots. They have been in a enclosed shelf under 2 x 2 foot fluros all of the time. They have been watered when the soil had dried out or they looked thirsty and given same fertz as my cacti. I have never grown these before but I cant get over how well they have done under the lights. I will definitely start them this way again. This pic taken in July This is them a few days ago. What did you do to your cacti today?

At this point of time I would suggest no one start chopping down their cacti or dumping their collections. The new laws need to be clarified properly and even if the worse case is that they are illegal have a look at the other states like WA where this type of law has been in place for years from what I can understand. Since I have been here I have only ever heard of one person being charged and that was the case recently. If you look at that case the plants only came to the attention of the police because of a previous importation find. And yes Bunnings does sell Trich's in WA and they are still grown in peoples gardens throughout the state. With this law that we have in WA I should have been charged for growing a Catha when the police were called to arrest the person who was trespassing and raping my tree. Instead they charged the person whith trespass and destruction of property. Not once in the three visits from the police was there any mention that the plant might be illegal but I was told that possession of plant material was. We had to explain to the police what the plant was as they had no idea so what chance is there of the average copper being able to identify a cacti let alone know how the law effects the legality of a particular plant. Drugs sold as 'food' exempt under new laws in Aus

You know some people that want to import these compounds may be a bit ruthless but do you think they would be stupid enough to bring in a compound that is active at micro doses in a chocolate bar or some other food. Could they trust the seller to do the right thing. The most important thing is would you trust a unknown source to give you a unmeasured dose of an unknown substance that you can not identify or measure. And that is before you even consider the issues of someone eating it thinking its just chocolate/food .......................your child perhaps . I for one would think that this is the most irresponsible stupid thing that any one could conceive doing. Hiding drugs in foodstuff is bad enough but laced food that is just fucked. Cheers Got

    astro cancer?

This is the most depressing thing with growing cacti especially when you have one like this with what you think is a small problem and then you eventually take a knife to it and the whole inside is mush. I feel for you Upside. I have lost more grafts to this rot than I have on there own roots. I have become a believer about 18 months ago in what Hellonasty is saying about the mix that these cacti should be in. It has taken me some time to get my head around it and so each mix I made up has less and less organic mater in it to now it would have max of 10 to 20% in a mix. Cheers Got

    Show off your freaks

This is how small the Fred grafts were which is the main reason I used pere. The one in the previous post is the largest one in these photos. From what I can work out they have been grafted for around 10 to 12 months Cheers Got
