  1. Hi - My grandfather has recently got onto the internet and loves to share his hobby for plant and flower photography with the family. Lately, he's taken to wattles - no-one else finds it funny, but I do... He's the north-west side of Sydney suburbs. Anyway, wondered if you could take a look at these pics. We're arguing about one of them. IMAG0109.JPG - Parramattensis or Decurrens or something else? IMAG0121.JPG - Longifolia IMAG0128.JPG - Longifolia or ?? Thanks! J.

    My Pereskiopsis are yellowing

I've re-potted them and withheld water for a wee while. I've yet to see any direct improvement, but they have stopped getting any worse. I also seem to have picked up some little tiny flies, (scarids??), that I am beginning to wonder whether or not they have anything to do with the issue... I'll update accordingly when things become clearer. Thanks, J.

    Flourescent lighting

I accepted that physical challenge - you can dispense with the electrician if you have an ounce of common sense. It ain't that hard... J.
  4. Howdy - One bunch of my pereskiopsis are yellowing, the others are not. The ones that are share a bottom watering tray. Would I be correct in thinking this is probably too much water given that they are indoors with an unchanged light source? Ciao, J.

Okey-dokes - thanks strangebrew... Guess I just haven't seen anything this dehydrated before. Cheers! J.

    ID assistance

Thanks EG - I have never seen a scop "in the flesh" before, but I thought they had no spines at all. This cutting looks as though the spines have been really closely trimmed off... A friend bought this as a pachanoi off ebay, but it doesn't really look like any pach I have seen before... J.
  8. Hello - Can anyone please assist me in identifying what this cactus is? Thanks! J.

    Acacia ID please!

A-ha! The only "wattle" species I could name at the beginning of this year... Should have thrown that one out as a matter of course and pretended I was an expert... Thanks! J.
  10. Hello - Anyone have any idea what Acacia this is?? My mate has recently bought a new place out near Picton - south-west Sydney near the river which has a few of these growing on it and was wondering what they were. My answer of "Wattle" wasn't particularly helpful apparently, so I am posting it here for older and wiser heads to advise accordinlgy... Cheers! J.
  11. Thanks for the info VM! Thanks for the info VM! Thanks for the info VM! J.
  12. Thanks shruman! I was amazed at the size of this thing... That fence is about five and a half feet high, so the entire plant must be around 20 foot tall! Cheers, J.
  13. Hello - I was out driving on the weekend and came across this clump of cactus. Any idea what they are and how old they'd be? Thanks! J.
  14. Thanks Sina - RE: the indoors/outdoors thing - I guess I want to do both. Outdoors for anything established, (I already have quite a few nice ornamentals happily living on our front balcony which catches the morning sun), and then use the indoors area for getting propagation sorted and trying my hand at grafting and rooting out pups or cuttings. My idea was to try and avoid downtime over winter using the indoor set up where I can control conditions and once summer rolls around again move anything mature enough outside. Does that make sense or do you think it is overkill given the Sydney climate? Ciao, J.
  15. Thanks for the thoughts and feedback guys - I appreciate your time. I've made a couple of tweaks and adjustments on the basis of your ideas and have now got some decent airflow, confirmed that I'm not going to burn down the back shed and got everything set up nicely. Once I get it bedded down properly, I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on. Thanks again! J.
