"On that note, naming clones. Are these 'clones' named by an authority off sum kind? Who names clones & what make them legit? I would love to know how this works. Can I just do an open pollination on my trichos & name the funky/weird looking one of seedling Tricho joxinormous?" Yeah I'm not so sure i even like that whole idea of an authority. General consensus has worked pretty well so far, sure you can name your little seedling but it does'nt real mean much to anyone else (besides your mum ;P) until you have grown it out & propagated it & other people are also growing it & even more they want to talk about it & hence need to call it something to make it distinct from all the other plants they like to yammer on about... yeah?...

    Named Clones Database Discussion Thread

I think it could be a little broader than "clone's" I think varieta's could also be included. Stable lineages from specific localities like Icaro or Los Gentiles should also be included yeah? Also maybe a field for AKA or possibly/probably Also Konwn As. Because there is probly a few out there of the same clone with more than one name.

"Shruman I here you, and please note that my comments where not directed at you or any other members here on this forum." Yeah no worries I did'nt realy think they were, but it is something I am passionate about even if I do have somewhat of a vested interest. "note what I said I don't believe the naming of clones to be a scam everything needs an origin, the profiteering from the progeny is questionable part" What do you mean by profiteering?, by profiteering I take it to mean you think someone(s) are making a profit in an unethical way?, what do you think is unethical? I realy do'nt understand, you think the origin is important but not when it comes to seeds? what exactly is unethical about providing the name of the parent(s) of the seeds? "My point was is there any correlation that known clone name cacti produce a high percentage of "quality" seedlings?" Known clone names will produce a higher percentage of "quality" seedlings if the known clones are known to have traits that you regard as "quality" compared to progeny of an unkown source. Surely you know something about genetics?, genes are inherited from their parents, this is the whole basis of selective breeding. You choose parents with traits that you find desireable then you choose their desirable progeny to breed & repeat. Mendel proved this 250 yrs ago. "and if the seeds are more expensive because they have a clone name and yet produce a similar quality offspring as unnamed plants then I would call that a scam." Thats an awful lot of "if"'s for someone that has apparently come to a conclusion. But even if you were able to prove those if's would that mean the price is unethical & therefore a scam?, If someone is paying cents an hour for a 3rd world child to get you your cheap unknown seeds, you would only be concerend with the price to you?, theres a whole host of ethical questions I would hope people would ask before they got to the question of price but sadly I understand that in todays consumer based world price is the bottom line for many people. Like the clones database EG, just hope people will contribute.

"I've come to the conclusion clone names are a bit of a scam not necesarily perpetrated by the founders of the clones but profiteers after the fact." How exactly does this scam work? The time & effort required to grow these plants is huge for the meager profit that could be achieved?, Surely anyone interested in profiteering or running a scam could think of a hundred ways with less labour intensive with much less of an initial outlay & with vastly greater turnover & profits. I think if people are growing these plants merely for profit they are the sucker who got scamed...

    Report Button

G'day, just wondering how the report button works? About a week ago I made a report about a mod but it just so happened that the mod I made a report about was the mod of the forum that I made the report in. Is the report I made only dealt with by the same mod I made a report about?, or is there a system in plce where other mods deal with it? Its just a bit weird as I have not recieved any notification that the report was even read let alone a notification that the report was dealt with? Or maybe it just takes longer than a week to deal with?, or you don't notify people it has been dealt with?, or is not woth dealing with? Any help appreciated, thanks
  15. "Lol, I was a heavy cannabis user since the age of 12 and had an IQ test when I was about 26 and scored 144, (even smoked a few cones of kronic in the car before going into the psychologists office). So that must mean I should have an IQ of ‘at least’ 154" Lol so maths was'nt in the IQ test?, shouldn't that be 152?

    Anxiolytics and BZD-active plants

"Standard allowable sessions capped at 10 from 1 November 2011 The number of sessions of psychological treatment a client could receive in a calendar year was cut from a maximum of 18 sessions in ‘exceptional circumstances’ to a maximum of 10 sessions, effective from 1 November 2011. The cap of 10 allowable sessions per calendar year also applies to group sessions delivered under the Better Access initiative. Reinstatement of ‘exceptional circumstances’ sessions from 1 March 2012 until 31 December 2012 Early in 2012 the Government announced interim arrangements to reinstate the ‘exceptional circumstances’ sessions to enable a period of adaptation. The interim arrangements only apply for a transitional period from 1 March 2012 to 31 December 2012. The maximum standard number of rebatable sessions per calendar year under the Better Access initiative remains at 10 sessions. However, during the transitional period, eligible clients where ‘exceptional circumstances’ apply can receive up to an additional six sessions to bring the maximum total number of allowable sessions in 2012 to 16 sessions. An information sheet outlining the transitional arrangements for accessing the additional sessions under exceptional circumstances can be downloaded below. Members are particularly alerted to information on the eligibility and documentation requirements for the exceptional circumstances sessions. Included in the information sheet is clarification of Better Access referral and reporting requirements under various circumstances, based on recent advice received from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing." http://www.psycholog...ss/changes2012/ Yeah it was 18 free sessions but then got canned to 10 then extended back to an aditional 6 for exceptional circumstances. "shruhman don't talk to me on the forum, you cause me enormous anxiety." You have the luxury of putting me on ignore but as you are a mod I do not no matter how many times I have asked for it...

    Anxiolytics and BZD-active plants

Yeah like I said you can get the rebate if you do'nt want a bulk biller. Pretty sure you can get anothter 1 or 2 psychiatrist sessions & even another 6 psychologist sessions if the doc gives you a referral. Wether it personaly helps you or not is a whole other thing.
  18. shruman

    Anxiolytics and BZD-active plants

Thats a load of crap incorrect^ Medicare will cover 1 free sesion with a psychiatrist & 6 free sessions with a psychologist if reffered to by a doctor & six more sessions if the doctor gives another referal or will give you a rebate for the same if you qualify & if you don't well you are earning more than enough to pay for it. I have found the countryside to be far better than small cities for docs & dentists, easier to get into & better quality but then again they are payed more & do'nt even get me started on city emergeny room wait compared to country...

    Knuthianus

I have some bigger plants of knuthianus but they have not flowered for me yet I also hve a cuzco but its not quite as big, seem to be a bit more reluctant than some of the other Trichos to get to flower but I keep my fingers x'd, you guys will be the 1st to know if I do though, Thanks Kate.

    Knuthianus

I think its a bit early & the photos are not great at helping to make a difinitive answer yet. I think like zac you could very well have a knuthianus & a cuzco but think the 1st might be cuzco & the second maybe knuthianus there but also agree with EG that spine length & other defining characteristics can be very much dependent on environmental factors. Pics 1,2,3 & 7 are the 1st plant yeah? and it is only in recent years that they seem to be consistently identified amongst the ethnobotany community as distinct species. Probly just the natural evolution of our understanding? "There are plants that I could say are definitely cuzcoensis, and plants that I could say are definitely knuthianus (like the second one here), but there are ones that have too many traits of both for me to be able to put it into one category or the other." Well there are other categories that share alot of the same charcteistics & do seem to indeed be in between these forms like tarmaensis & schoenii among others. There does seem to be a good grouping of very closely related plants.

  23. "Persistent cannabis users show neuropsychological decline from childhood to midlife Madeline H. Meiera,b,1, Avshalom Caspia,b,c,d,e, Antony Amblere,f, HonaLee Harringtonb,c,d, Renate Houtsb,c,d, Richard S. E. Keefed, Kay McDonaldf, Aimee Wardf, Richie Poultonf, and Terrie E. Moffitta,b,c,d,e [/url] aDuke Transdisciplinary Prevention Research Center, Center for Child and Family Policy, bDepartment of Psychology and Neuroscience, and cInstitute for Genome Sciences and Policy, Duke University, Durham, NC 27708; dDepartment of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, NC 27710; eSocial, Genetic, and Developmental Psychiatry Centre, Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London, London SE5 8AF, United Kingdom; and fDunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Research Unit, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, School of Medicine, University of Otago, Dunedin 9054, New Zealand Abstract Recent reports show that fewer adolescents believe that regular cannabis use is harmful to health. Concomitantly, adolescents are initiating cannabis use at younger ages, and more adolescents are using cannabis on a daily basis. The purpose of the present study was to test the association between persistent cannabis use and neuropsychological decline and determine whether decline is concentrated among adolescent-onset cannabis users. Participants were members of the Dunedin Study, a prospective study of a birth cohort of 1,037 individuals followed from birth (1972/1973) to age 38 y. Cannabis use was ascertained in interviews at ages 18, 21, 26, 32, and 38 y. Neuropsychological testing was conducted at age 13 y, before initiation of cannabis use, and again at age 38 y, after a pattern of persistent cannabis use had developed. Persistent cannabis use was associated with neuropsychological decline broadly across domains of functioning, even after controlling for years of education. Informants also reported noticing more cognitive problems for persistent cannabis users. Impairment was concentrated among adolescent-onset cannabis users, with more persistent use associated with greater decline. Further, cessation of cannabis use did not fully restore neuropsychological functioning among adolescent-onset cannabis users. Findings are suggestive of a neurotoxic effect of cannabis on the adolescent brain and highlight the importance of prevention and policy efforts targeting adolescents." http://www.pnas.org/content/early/2012/08/22/1206820109.abstract?sid=86ce4136-6712-4372-bac6-280ac41c6f79 Apparently the full paper will be available for free in 6 months, unless someone has a subcription?
