99% of my cactus, I don`t water over the winter months. Tylencoden Wallichiii is part of the 1% that is watered only over the winter months, not a euphorbia and no water over the summer months, when it looses its leaves.

Am trying to id plants that were gifted to me, 2 might be a terscheckii, the other might be some sort of Aloe. The original owner had no idea either.

Thanks, the aloe thingy does have bumps, which gives me a starting point. They are all now in pots with soil and I will do further research.

Had a self imposed ban on myself, for various reasons, which may seem a cop out, but was needed. Many year ago I had 2 strokes that were 4 years apart, each stroke was followed by a bout of depression. The first one, honey was available and seemed to address depression, the second one, it wasn`t. After the second stroke depression was very intense, lasted a long time and caused all sorts of problems. This post is to explain my previous comments and to share with others, that have had a similar experience.

Agree, thank god for different varieties and edibles -
Agave Tequilana is a lot easier to obtain than it was, as the Mexican government has given Australia permission to grow it. It is grown in Queensland on a large scale, for biofuel and under the condition that any spirt made is not called Tequila or Mezcal, as it is the national drink of Mexico. Permission has been given to Australia to grow it, because we do not have the altitude of Mexico and the spirt is said to taste like shit. Locally made Agave spirt is available, I have not tried yet, as Tequila and Mezcal suffice.

Personally I think I will always call them Trichocereus, even though I`ve been told that now their name is Echinopsis. Its hard to teach an old dog new tricks and I have trouble pronouncing Echinopsis anyhow.. The genus Echinopsis has been is use since its first description in 1837 by Joseph Zuccharini, but the word was proposed by Karl Linnaeus back in 1737. The word derives from the Latin "echinos" meaning hedgehog or sea urchin and "opsis" meaning appearance, a reference to these plants dense covering of spines. Initially, it was used to classify relatively small cactus that fit this description, and didn`t really include columnar cactus at all. Most columnar cactus at this point in time belonged to the genus Cereus, derived from the Latin word for wax light or candle. In 1974 a botanist named Friedrich Gaimo concluded that Trichocereus and Echinopsis flowers were of the same type. His argument was that the ovary and floral tube lacked spines but possessed hairs, had a open or diffused type of nectary and two series of stamens. Due to Friedrich`s conclusions, and on account of the fact that Echinopsis was the older genus, all species in the Trichocereus genus were reclassified into Echinopsis.

My last post with pictures (color for winter) has not doubled up yet. I say yet as it seems a gradual thing and now 99% of all posts, the pictures have doubled up. Thought it might have been at my end, but have been on other sites and do not have this problem. When it first started, it was a bit of a pain, but now have got use to it, good luck.

Not sure why, but pic`s seem to be doubling up.

Worked in the Melbourne Botanical Gardens in the early 80s, building footpaths, saving lakes, etc. The cactus collection then, consisted of a small glasshouse with small cacti and have not been back since. I have heard good reports since then and am planning a trip there in the near future and your pictures give a good sample of what I may expect.

Apart from being left wide eyed. there are no noticeable physiological effects. Maybe some of the millions of dollars being thrown at it nowadays, should be spent in this area.
