Growing Acacias in extreme Southern Australia (i.e. south of Hobart)
Humboldt replied to Rhyzobium's topic in Australian Native Plants
Maybe that was a bit premature, sadly a few days on and the acuminata looks pretty burnt despite bringing it in under cover after 2 frosts. A. floribunda has stayed out for 5 or 6 frosts now and appears not to have suffered at all. Ps. Sorry about the vertically challenged pics. -
Hi Mosh, forgive my ignorance but whats SE? Ive been experimenting a little with making incense. Have tried some different spirit blends like Calea Z, Tricho and Loph blended with makko. Syrian rue, mopacho blends just with charcol blocks. Interesting for meditation and inviting plants into your conciousness. I love resins like copal, myrrh and palo santo. The thick smoke is beautiful, i like to cleanse and honour my plants and rapee with the resins. The tibetan incense via the SAB shop is interesting and nice too. Would love to try making a caapi blend with dried leaf next. If anyone can help with supplying some please let me know, would be awesome. Kindness H

Growing Acacias in extreme Southern Australia (i.e. south of Hobart)

Ive noticed the obtusifolia to be less stressed than acuminata. In fact they seemed very happy about it. Man they were harsh frosts last week! The bath outside had 2cm of ice on top, the seedling punnets froze solid even though they were inside the shed. -

Hi Rhyz from a fellow Tas southerner. Thanks for the informative vid. Im having a go at growing A.acuminata for the 1st time. Have you lost any to frost? Which of the species do you feel are the hardiest to frost? acuminata survived last week ok which some minimal leaf damage (although i did move by the 3rd frosty night last week.) The younger seedlings did pretty well. Hoping once they get taller it wont be as much an issue. Peace -
Thanks for sharing @Horus. A great talk indeed.

Hey Zool, im not much of a expert but was of the understanding the knuthianus dont mind a bit of chill. We get 6+ or so ripping frost down here, I was intending in putting some trichs into a raised bed and covering with a frost cloth.

Hi my Eileen has 3 blacked areas that appear necrotic? Can anyone tell me why this happened and how to proceed. Guessing it got too dry over a period in summer? None of my other Trichs have this issue.
-
Thanks EG, sorry about the crappy pics. Perhaps I will mark and measure an affected area and see if it progresses or recedes. Kindness

Hi, first time growing Mopacho and it has been great. Now its time to dry and cure. Was hoping someone could chime in with some knowledge on the matter. Ive been drying on this hanging mesh thing in low temps. Should i be using heat (wood heater)? Have noticed some green blue spots on some at first i though mould but i dont think so. Ammonia?? Do I devain? What should i be doing to get a nice cure Peace

You're the font of all knowledge WB, got a bit of a handle on it now, i think, cheers. One day those nasty little critters will get there commupance.
-
Hi, I was wondering how dormancy effects Trichs grafted onto Peres. If the Peres is less 'domant prone' for example does the Trich continue with growth ?
-
Thanks for chiming in WB. By colour cured do you mean no green at all left in major veins? What methods do i employ to stop "composting" my heap ferm.
-
No worries @Alchemica, will know to bypass any seed offers from you in the future. Peace H

Sorry WC but im confused as to what is meant by'activator' and what sprinkling will do. Havent burnt or done anything with the poorly dried material yet. Will have to harvest the lot soon (regardless of colour) as temps are dropping for Tassie winter. Thanks for the input everybody.
-
Have aborted that lot. Will burn and spread ashes in the garden and start again. Should i be waiting for leaves to yellow on the plant? Many thanks @LowHP for the great advice. I would like to collect seed but i let them flower because i wasnt aware not too, have got some nice dinner plates nontheless. Seemed to enjoy the shelter of the corn next to it (and maybe the dead quail beneath). We will get frosts in a month or so. Kindness

Under what conditions WC? Looks like i need to start again, or just leave it alone. Great read thanks @Amazonian Im a terrible search.
